What smell(s) makes you think of your childhood?
This was the question of the day on a group that I'm on, and I thought it was a really great question.... it's just amazing how smells can evoke so many feelings and emotions inside us, both good and bad...
so what smell(s) take you back to your childhood???? Here's mine.....
COFFEE.... it reminds me so much of my Daddy. I used to sit on his lap and drink his coffee.... so yeah, I started drinking coffee as soon as I could drink from a cup! Daddy passed away when I was only 14. I still drink coffee and can't imagine life without it. I still like it with lots of cream and sugar, just like Daddy did!
LILACS... my dad and my brothers and I used to go out to this place near the freeway... there used to be a house there but they knocked it down to make the freeway, but all the plantings from when the house was there were still around, so there were lots of lilac bushes, so we'd go and pick a huge bunch of them and bring home to fill up vases for my mom.... we did this every year around mother's day and every time I smell lilac it reminds me of that... they are also my favourite flower, probably has something to do with that too.
The smell inside the pop up camper....
we had a camper growing up... we went A LOT....
I don't really know what the smell is....
NO, it's NOT the mildew smell of a camper that got put away wet... that's a nasty smell.... ours didn't smell like that and I won't let my camper get like that either YUKKKKKK. It's like a woodsy/outdoor kinda smell.... don't really know what but mmmmmmmm.
Cherry Pipe Tobacco reminds me of my paper route that I had when I was 11 and 12... There was a stop on my paper route where the guy smoked cherry tobacco in his pipe, and every time I smell it, it reminds me of that. He was really nice and a lot of times if he were there when I was dropping off the paper, he'd give me a coke!!
so WHAT SMELL(S) remind you of YOUR childhood??????

Strawberries...summers when we lived in the country.. my grandma used to rent rows. My siblings and I would pick them for her strawberry jam.
Roses-remind me of church. there were rosebushes around our church that used to smell delightful !
My dad would be Old Spice and cherry blend tobacco...
Nora, yes I DO know the "farm smell".... growing up I'd go occasionally to my best friends uncles farm.... it's not a bad "manure" kind of smell either, like some are thinking of.... it's a ....... farm smell. LOL.
So many things make me think of my childhood but I would have to say the one thing that brings out the most memories are the woods. We used to play in the woods all the time. We did not have money to buy toys and we found many things to do in the woods from digging may apple root to sell to swinging on grape vines.
None because I have no sense of smell.
yikes.
My best friends hubby is like that too....
If you have babies don't let your significant other know...... my best friend made her hubby change all the nasty diapers.... since he couldn't smell them anyway. LOL.
Anything that smells like hay, and cut grass.
Goat's cheese (I milked goats on the farm). I adore goats, they are cute and smart, but I hated the chore - and taste !!!!
I like goats too, but I hate it when they try to lick my face!!
EEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!
chanel #5 from my mothers aunt, yuck!

The smell of PLAY-DOH for sure! And burnt plastic from the make it and bake it suncatchers and shrinkydinks I used to make.
shrinkydinks??? man I remember those......
that stuff was SO FUN to play with....
and also the ONLY way I could get mom to let me use her oven!!!
Air right after a rain storm has started!
