So, things are a bit crazy around here with the new summerpics promotion. I'd like to hear a few of you weigh in on something if you have the time to spare.
1st of all, who is really trying to go for the top prize? I ask because I figure I have no chance if it's based on pure clicks and comments. I don't have the time to reciprocate back to everyone in like. But maybe I can help out a couple of my friends. And please.............. DO NOT EMAIL ME. Sorry for shouting but I needed to make tht clear.
I'm just going for the 10 points per photo. Lord knows, I have plenty to spare.
2nd - if the top prize is simply whomever has the most hits or whatever, I guess it really isn't about quality, just quantity, in the long run. That kind of makes me sad. What's the purpose? To generate more $ for Gather only? I'm right, yes? It's just about more click,clck, clicking - which adds up to dollar signs.
I'd just like to hear your thoughts on this. That's all.

I'm just watching. I agree about the click for dollars thing. Anything based on a rating on Gather comes down to popularity...since different people view the ratings game differently. Would be really nice if an outside photographer judged the photos in different categories. They could even make it fair: a category for pros and another for regular folk. Award prizes for different themes...one for scenery...another for your child (or pet). That would be kinda fun!
Anyway, YES - I am trying to win the digital camera!! The picture I am hoping will get on the top 10 is my profile pic - the one with my feet dangling over the water - so if you want to go take a peek and maybe rate it a 10 *wink wink* LOL
So, it's all about the $$ and posting all these hundreds of shots I have sitting here waiting to post.
As for #2. I have no idea what determines it.
So far, t's mostly for the points.
Priscilla why will you delete them? And I appreciate the fact that you are posting quality. Although, given the circumstances, I understand why some people will post anything for the points. If you need the money, you need the money.
I can tell you right now, the better photos will not make the top 10. It will be those with the most supportive connections. The winning photos won't even be close to the best ones out there sadly. Just think "first chapters contest." Some of the best stuff never had a chance.
I am taking advantage of it for the 10 points per pic.
My niece just had twins early and I thought a couple of Home Depot Gift cards would help her with her new home (an older home with some changes needed)
I am enjoying publishing photos that I normally would not show to my connections on a daily basis.
Usually if they are not fantastic, I don't publish them (in my eye).
The summerpics promo is fun - why not take advantage of it?
As far as baking while camping. I enjoy playing with food over a fire. We use a Coleman stove and do most of our meals the easy way. Breakfast, dessert, treats are fun with more of a chance of disaster.
And then there is the bragging rights.

Having said that, yes, I am posting more than usual--for the extra points alone. I mostly forget to even rate folks anymore now that it's hidden behind the thumb (I'm SORRY!!) and I suspect that many others do the same, so that knocks out the highest rated category for me. It's going to end up that the person with the most contacts will get the camera, and that ain't me :-)
I'm posting more essays myself for the points. I don't begrudge anyone what they do to get extra points which is like extra cash.

About the ratings - does anyone know if it slowed the trolls down? Maybe it just made it harder for the rest of us.........
I agree with everyone else who has said the best photo won't win. It's all based on connections and who sends out e-mails, etc. Gather just wants the business from all the clicking.

Wilma. I wouldn't feel guilty about posting 45 photos. Post away, hon. That's what it's for. You might as well take advantage of the situation while you can. I don't usually post so much lately.
I have written down who I think will be the "top ten images" and the content of said images. I want to see if I am right. It's just a popularity contest, content, as always, means diddly.
I'm fortunate that I can "make" the time but I'm really taking it away from other things. I'm good at that. I figure it will all be over in another week. I'll run out of photos by then. :-)
Anyway... I love that Gather is giving us points! The points have been hard to come by, I've noticed, so I'll take the extra ones they're giving for summer photos, thank you very much. LOL.
