Gather Photos

I've come to a conclusion.  I spend way too much time on Gather because I'm constantly behind. I think I've come up with a way to fix that.  I love looking at all the wonderful photos here on Gather.  So many of you are really talented, and I just love to see what you are going to do.  However, I feel like my comments don't add anything and are always just like, "great job" or something.  Therefore, I'm going to be rating photos now instead of leaving a comment.  If you see a phantom rating without a comment to go with it, it might be mine.  I hope this doesn't offend anyone, but to me (since we don't get points for commenting anyway) it's the best use of my time, and I still get to look at your wonderful pictures.  Please feel free to do the same to mine, if you are so inclined.  Just know (my friends) that I am still looking at your fabulous pictures.

I do the same thing sometimes. I will look at every single one of my connections photos. I try to comment on as many as possible but if I don't I at least give them a look.

I always leave a comment so the person knows I was there. I look at it as being curtious.

A lot of users are just rating now, since Kevin said comments don't count. It's much faster to just look at a page, rate it and then move on. :P

Supposedly comments count for the one you've visiting. If that's true, lots of folks are missing out then. :-(

If all you want to do is put "Great photo!" on mine, please feel free. Generic comments on photos don't bother me. Copy, paste, and comment away!

That's fine, though I'm going to be perfectly honest here, the comments mean way more to me than the rating. Especially if it's my son's work.

It's hard to have him understand what a 10 means, but good job he understands well.

I've been rating comments for a long time, but I usually leave a comment too just like Marianne says, because it's the courteous thing to do.

I saw a posting by a Gather guy...Jim Bostwick? that we never got points for commenting, nothing changed, just in case you are interested!

I must have missed the discussion about comments earning points or not -- when was this? I am clearly even further behind then I thought. I don't mind if people comment or not though :-)

Sue S.... WE may not get points for doing the commenting, as Kevin said recently... but if we comment on someone's work, THEY will get points. So I comment to help my Gather friends out!

But I do understand, Sarah, as it does take alot of time to comment on everyone's stuff and not everyone has that kind of time.

But they get points for being rated as well... from what I understand... they get a point for page views just as well as we do.

I don't think that its true that you don't get points for commenting, I've seen this discussed elsewhere on gather also. ( unless this has been changed recently) you do of course also get points for ratings and page views. I know that I always see my point total go up whenever I comment, even when no one else has commented on any of my stuff. I understand it takes more time to leave a comment, so if you ( or anyone else) just leaves a rating because of that; of course I won't be offended :) I'm glad that someone takes the time to read what I wrote. I just wouldn't want someone to not comment when they want to just because they think their comments don't count for anything

I look at photos when they are parts of essays, usually. But lots of people do love those photos!

I don't know, but I see my points go up when I just rate without commenting. This whole issue is confusing to me and I guess the bottom line is you gotta do what you gotta do. It's not all about the points... But I just can't get to everyone's photo if I comment on all of them. I don't have that kind of time...

I can certainly understand how you feel. It seems that I am always behind on articles and photos here. I don't know why I feel I must leave a comment on things, but I do and like you some are "great shot", "nice pic", and the like. You may be on to something here.
Personally, I don't mind people just rating something...unless it is a low rating and then I would like to know why the person felt it should be rated as such.

I very much appreciate your taking the time to rate and comment or either or both or neither if all you want to do is just "look" -- that's fine, too! ... :o)
