Introduction
Mark Twain, which was a pen name, was a humorist and a story teller of the 19th century. In those days photography had just been invented, but it was only in Black & White. There was no radio and no TV. Twain became famous as a writer. His real name was Samuel Clemens.
The Books
His most famous books were "Tom Sawyer" and "Huckleberry Finn", which were books about life near the Mississippi river. He also wrote "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" as well as various other stories.
There was a false rumor that he was dead. He said that this rumor was "greatly exaggerated". His pen name came from a riverboat expression for the depth of the water.
Twain was born in 1835, when Darwin was a young man.

This is an audio book based on one of Twain's stories.
Twain came from Hannibal, Missouri. This state is on the Mississippi river. Thus he got much of his material from actual experience. Twain is known for many humorous quotations. I have included these quotations in several collections of quotations that I have already published on Gather.

I have also saluted Dr. Paul Averback, who started out in England and moved to Canada (Montreal) in 1981. Averback was a brilliant neuropathologist.
