Now if they surrender the dog to our city the dog will be euthanized, now i wonder arent there any rescue groups out there that would take in a dog that has bitten before....???? If so, how or where could i find or contact them.?
It is really sad that the dog has bitten that little girl, but if you have a little baby and a dog in the house (AND IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT BREED THE DOG IS!!!!) shouldn't you watch your dog and the baby????
We have a dog, he is a puppy still and i always have a eye on him and my daughter...
but my point is, doesnt that dog deserve a second chance? the dog has been with the family for 10 years, and nothing has ever happened before... i do believe the parents are mostly responsible for this, for not watching the baby and the dog...
if anyone knows are rescue group, or someone the family could contact please let me know...

I understand how old the dog is. I read the post. Age in my opinion doesn't make a difference. Granted the adults should of been watching the dog around the child. You can't change what happend.
I told my boss that I thought every veterinarian's worst nightmare is a 100-lb. Chihuahua....to which he most heartily agreed. (Chihuahua's being right on up there with Dachsunds for most likely to bite).
I do love all dogs no mater if you want to believe me or not.
I have stated I would never own one. As they are to much dog for me to handle.
It is ashame the dog is going to pay the price for human stupidity.
I had a relative come over once with 2 small kids and they wanted to play with my dogs, I told them to leave them alone and had all four dogs put into my room for the duration of their visit (2hours) I stayed in the room with the dogs while my wife visited with the family. I know my dogs would not attack with me around, BUT I don't mistreat my dogs either.
I don't know if there is an second chance group for the dog in this area but the dog may very well go after another kid or adult and an adult for that matter. The dog may have been aggravated by the child but I personally wouldn't try to save a dog regardless of breed that bit a kid, the dog is now human aggressive. I think this was an older dog that may have been agitated by a kid.
Agressive dog dogbehavier torwards dogs is normal for a dog, torwards humans it is unexeptable. Most rescues will not take a dog what bites or it will be put down there also. It is not tolerated.
Try to contact these websites: badrap.org, Cesar Millan, etc. and see if they have any advice or maybe someone could find it a childfree home.
In my opinion - no one should be allowed a dog, especially breeds like a chiua... or a pit, unless they proved their skills in dog handling and realized the responsibility that comes with owning a pet.
For you information pits make great babysitters and were at one time considered a great family dog. It's sad that pits get such a bad rap - it's definitely the people and not the dog.
Oh, and if they've been around pit bulls, what was the dog's demeanor? Was he as well behaved as my pits? My sister's? Or do they hear one story and run with their misconception as gospel?
Might that be a liability issue? Should that dog make another vicious attack, would not the rescuer then be liable for allowing it to be readopted?

Could it be a Gather glitch or a bug in Mozilla Firefox? I left the tab open and apparently Firefox resent the comment every time I restarted it.
(I hope that this didn't happen in other places too.)
I do not know what caused it. I went though other posts that I recently commented on and found other places where three or four of my same comment appears, each one about 1 day apart.

Okay, the browser froze up while I was commenting here earlier and I had to use the "Task Manager" to shut it down. When I restarted it, it brought me back here and then I started typing in a new comment. All of the sudden it became unresponsive and then the original comment replaced the one I was typing. Then, I was able to add this to it. Could there be a connection? I believe that to be likely.
I went ahead and deleted most of the duplicates. Hopefully it won't happen again.
Incidentally, now it is occasionally missing keystrokes and I have to go back and fill in the missing letters. Darn that "busy" hourglass icon.
