My daughter has anger issues!

Today my daughter punched me in the nose.  She's only 5 year old and she's just mean! I love her with all my heart, but I have had enough of getting kicked, punched, scratched and having things thrown at me.  I think she needs professional help or something.  I'm just thankful that she doesn't bite anymore.  Well almost never does :/  She tried last week, but I stopped her.

Today she had dug her nails into my arm and I still have the marks.  I had to pry her off my arm and was trying not to scream it hurt so much.  When she doesn't get her way she gets even.  I think it's karma.  My mom told me to clean my room once when i was her age and I bit my mom in the hand.  

My poor son gets alot of it himself and started kicking me today.  I had to hold his legs down to keep from getting hurt.  

I make alot of excuses for my kids behavior, but this is just embarassing and needs to stop.  Family members have said that she needs to go on medication, but I don't want to go in the doctor's office saying hey give my kids meds.  Maybe therapy will help, but my daughter has speech delays and i'm not sure if that will be helpful right now.  

I am gonna be getting a diagnosis soon I hope.  Her pediatrician thinks she may have mild autism and ADHD.  Both my children are in pre school special ed right now and will be going on to regular schools once they are out.  Next year for my daughter and a year after that for my son.

Well I gotta go and help make strawberry jam YUMMY!

Starting with the doctor sounds like a good idea. He/She can always steer you in the right direction from there if anything else is needed.

She needs to be seen by someone or maybe start putting your foot down. Children are very smart, they know what they can get away with, if you let them.....

hmmmm, it's not easy that's for sure. another reason why I personally chose not to have children, I knew I could be pushed over the edge...I didn't want to find out what that would be....hope you find solutions soon...peace!

i understand what u mean about putting kids on meds. I didnt want too but my daughter is adhd, i finally had to put my daughter on meds. she is 12 now and has been off off them a few years now. I kept her on them for about 2 years they really do help them out. You will be surpurized at the changes in her with meds.

My school made my mom send me to a psyc and be put on meds because of my ADHD, i was way too disruptive, but I was happier when I was on the meds because I was a little calmer (there's not a kid out there doesnt have a little energy), and some of my outbursts stopped. They didnt find out till i was 17 that i was bipolar.

I hope you get some help for your daughter, or she will be facing a very difficult time both in school and when it comes to socializing.

my son was like that too, but since disciplining here is far way different than there, we get to spanked them... when my son hurts other people or me, i spanked his hand or his butt. it stopped, and i was thankful for that. and because we are in third world country, getting medical help is hard and it costs a lot especially if one has a special child. they said my son had one, but then, he is very ok now...

i think you should have some therapy with her, to really know the reasons for her behavior because 5 years old with speech delays is not normal here... 3-4 years old talks a lot already.

knowing how our kids are, to know what proper treatment we give them...

She had severe echolalia, but since she's been seen at school twice a week with speech therapist she's doing well. I do discipline her, but she doesn't care. She's very impulsive also. Though she does hate standing in a corner, but now she says she wants to stand in the corner. She just can't sit still. When she's in time out she's flopping around or getting up and just can't sit down. I don't want her in time out all day long, so I need a better way.
Her teacher said that she has an attitude when at school, but she's not violent thankfully!

I am so sorry to hear this! One of my boys is going through some things like this as well and it's tough not knowing what to do. I hope you are able to get your children the help they need. What I've experienced so far with mine is that you have to be on top of things or else teachers and school administrators hope the problem goes away on its own. :o)

Yeah her school says they don't diagnose kids or "label" them. I want answers and help. Their doctor is depending on the school to give an insight into my kids problems and what good will it do if they don't know what's going on.

Heather, a doctor can determine if she may have autism but if this is not the case I wouldn't go the medicine route at all. First start with a therapist, psychotherapist, someone who has training and has been successful with Cognitive Behaviorial Therapy. This is helping me with my anxiety more than any dr's or medicine has done in my 29 years of life. Best of luck with your children hun, I hate to her that they are acting in that way.

While you're seeking help as to her behavior, also take a look at her diet. Sugar will make children more hyper. You might want to cut it out of the diet entirely for awhile. There are also food allergies that can cause some of these symptoms, or contribute to them. Good luck on getting the problem solved and resolved while she is still very young. This could ruin her life if allowed to continue. Parenting is hard work. I don't envy what you're going through.

I hope you don't mind me mentioning it, but it popped into my head while reading your post. Could there be a possibility that she has somehow witnessed violence, that you aren't aware of? and don't get me wrong, I don't mean you or anyone in your family is doing anything like that; it's just that kids sometimes emulate the behavior of adults- or even something they see on TV- and it doesn't have to be because someone in their family is doing those sorts of things.

I am sorry things are rough with your daughter. Definitely try to work with a Dr. to get to the bottom of her anger issues. It sounds like she doesn't really know how to express what she is feeling any other way.

Wow, don't know what to say but I've taught a few like that over the years...I carried many bruises to proof...Parents would usually blame me for their child's behavior - nice - I hope things calm down for you soon.
