AC users beware- Hubby just got turned down for 2 articles because they were already posted here. They were both game reviews. The specific reason was listed as them both being Gather posts, and them no longer accepting content from a competitive site.

I guess I don't consider Gather and AC to be competing sites. I've already been having some problems with them. I guess that just seals it- I don't write exclusivly for them, they simply don't pay well enough for me to do that. I'd rather post here.

Besides, most of my articles here come from me sitting down and writing about whatever. When I post there, it's because I think an article I posted here is good enough to be seen elsewhere.

They also turned down two of his reviews as being "too old"- for games that have been on the shelf less thana  full week!

Wow that is really something! I'm surprised that AC would consider Gather to be a competitor. Good info to know.

Yeah, it was disappointing. I had one article turned down about a month ago, and it listed it with the actual gather link for the reason why. Nick's specifically said they no longer accept articles from here, though.

Yea Karen stopped submitting much there because they pay very little compared to Gather and other places. I never liked them because I can sell my articles for much more money directly to individual website owners.

I'm not terribly suprised that they've stopped accepting articles from "competing" sites, though I'm not sure that Gather is. Ah well, you can still publish articles on Gather that you published on AC, as long as you didn't do them as exclusive AC articles. :)

And they are very temperamental on the reviews--I've had them accept movie reviews when something was new to DVD with no problem, but I've heard a lot of people say that they won't take movie reviews unless you see a sneak preview...

That really stinks. I don't use AC so I don't have to worry about it but that really does bite that they are being so picky.

Yeah, as the hubby in question, I'm baffled. I wrote up a slightly more detailed article, but they went so far as to show the link to my Puzzle Quest review, stating something along the lines (I figured I already had it posted, so I just resubmitted it without the purchase option to try and make 4 1/2 cents off of it :P ) that competing sites that might be found on a web search made it less likely that they would gain any benefit from buying the article outright and to resubmit it as the view-pay method (the actual name eludes me atm).

yeah, I just did it because I had some content already written up, figured I could make a couple of bucks off of it, but I'm rather highly discouraged. If I thought I could make money doing my own games review site I would - I suspect I'd enjoy it, but bigger sites make it impossible to compete. :P Ah well, just struck me as curious, overall.

Yeah, that's the method I tried was for upfront. I'm new there, thought I'd give it a shot at least and see. I sort of figured 3 would get turned down, kinda thought maybe the 4th would, and really figured that the 5th one that's been out like a week would go over well, especially since it's a pretty popular game and I didn't see any other reviews for it up yet.

They are picky. I like that though. It's different than Gather. Gather is good for blog, and AC is all right for exclusive writing.

Yes, it is considered competitive to them if it is posted elsewhere on a high traffic site like Gather. The way I work around it is to first post it non-exclusive on AC and then after they pay for it I post it on the other places I like to post my articles. As for game reviews and there idea of what is a new game, I have also been frustrated by that more than once by them. I found that you are more likely to not get that type of rejection if you make the article more into a guide than a review of the game, however it is totally freaky that they say it is no longer a new game when the game has barely been out long enough for one to play through and give a fair assessment of the game.

That's too bad... but I can see their point. Perhaps they were seeing a spike of content from Gather being reposted, and needed to make a decision. :-(

What Kjersti said - post to AC *first* as non-exclusive, and then after it's been accepted post it elsewhere. They can't stop you as long as it's non-ex, after all.

I can understand them doing that. It takes money they could earn away from them when an article is posted somewhere as well.

I tried AC. But could never get the hang of it. My articles never made it.

I've been posting some of my older, non-exclusive AC articles here. Since the policy changes they haven't been accepting many of my articles for payment, anyway. I'm not too happy about that, but I guess it's their site and they can do what they want. I put my research articles on Constant Content now, AC isn't paying enough to make it worth my time to let them have them!

I forgot to add....have your tried triond.com? I am still making a buck or two every month on book reviews and such that I published with them last spring. They even take photos!

I actually like AC, but it is very different from Gather. The trick for me is to always post for non-upfront payment. You still get paid in perpetuity, especially if it is something for which you can generate traffic. I am still getting paid a couple of bucks a month for a review of Vonage that I created over a year ago. In fact, it still gets about as much traffic as it did when I first posted it. I just posted the link on a bunch of social bookmarking sites, and the search engines did the rest of the work for me.

They had a special in Sept - publish 5 articles - get 10 dollars - I did that. I also do as other say -non- exclusive - publish there first - don't see it as a money maker, but I did get my 10 dollars.
