Gather Swap Meet

I'm a little bummed right now at the selection of Gift cards that you can redeem points for on here.  I mean Home Depot doesn't do me a whole lot of good because I don't own a home or need to fix it up.  That's the gist of what they sell.  Macys and Omaha steaks are nice, but so expensive!  $50 at one of those stores is like $75 or $100 somewhere else!  All of the stuff that I want or need, I can't find in any of the stores that Gather has gift cards for.  I know what I really need is to get to the cash option, but that is really a pretty unrealistic goal for me right now.

Here's what I thought of though.  There are other people on gather that absolutely love the Home Depot gift cards or one of the other stores.  So I think we should start having a swap meet.  For instance, I post an article saying that I need or want a new cd player (just for an example.)  Someone else comments and says that they have a cd player that's in really good condition that they'd give me for a $25 Home Depot card.  I then redeem my points for a $25 Home Depot card and send it to them.  They in turn send me the CD player.  I get what I want and they get what they want. 

Maybe we could get this going on a grand scale?  What do you think??  :)

Sounds like a good idea as long as everyone did as they were supposed to by sending you the merchandise in a timely fashion! I wish they would get Target gift cards on here. I love spending my money there! But alas I am saving up for my back porch! ( home depot works for me)

Great idea except you will those who will not send out what they promised and you have no way to regulate it.

I agree though, I wish they had more selections.

I think you're on to something! I think thats a great idea. I have been dissappointed with the limited gift cards available. Think gather will go for it?
And whats with the point system anyway? Just how are points rated? What gets what?

I do agree that I wish there were more choices. I'm on the cash option now but my Mom is on the gift card option. Her last card was to Home Depot and she sent me to the store with it to use. I got a huge package of papertowels, big box of trash bags, laundry detergent, the little Cascade pouches that you use in your dishwasher, and lightbulbs. So they do have household stuff, and not just stuff to fix up the house.

someplace that had everything like a target or walmart would be lovely. gas cards would be nice also what with the price of gas and all. i'd be willing to trade prints of my work.

I think walmart cards would be a great addition, or somewhere generally everywhere you can get groceries...not just overpriced meats like Omaha steaks.

I think it sounds really cool, but I would do it so that it is a group or something. So far I have met some really great people on here, but I know there are going to be some who wouldnt hold up their end of the bargain. With a group there can be some sort of accountability.

I would love to swap gift cards. I have a few gift cards to places that I don't shop at or we dont have near my home, a couple for places that I dont eat at either and would love to swap those for gather ones.

Excellent idea. I'm in. Are you thinking of going to a swap meet sight and findiing aout about how they keep every thing running smoothly? Yell if you need help with this. I'm sure many people would love to partcipate.

I'm not really sure how it would work out as there are always people that try and take advantage of the situation. Also I'm not sure how Gather would feel about something like this. Still, it might be something to look into... I'll have to keep thinking.

I think it sounds good idea. I am hoping I get my email for the cash option. It would work best for me as well. I wish they had walmart cards on here as well. Only thing I would worry about is with what was already said people doing as promised.

I agree with the idea however I would like to see the Gather people to get involved for legal purposes.

Sounds interesting, though I don't have much here that I'd be willing to part with, heh. I would be concerned about lost/misdirected mail, damage while mailing and someone not holding up their end of the deal for whatever reason (forgetfulness etc)

Maybe you could sell your unwanted gift cards to someone else. Or maybe sell them on eBay. I actually thought about selling mine on eBay since I doubt I'll ever get the cash option.

Gather doesn't have many options for Gift cards, that is why I am glad I am on the cash option so that I can choose what I get with my points, instead of having to use it at Home Depot or Macys...

Hmmmm. Sounds like it might be a good idea. Home depot has all sorts of stuff though. they have lightbu.lbs and lamps andflowers and plants and vases and other miscellany. I agree though that it would be nice to have other options.

I think its a good idea, but what happens when someone gets jipped? Who takes that loss?

Im waiting for a walmart giftcard. Thats about the only store I shop at anyway.

Last year around mid January, the Gather rewards changed and a lot of new ones were added. I would guess that the same thing would happen this year, and probably soon. So you never know, maybe something else you do like will be added. And you can always keep trying for the cash option if that's what you really want.

I think your idea for a swap/barter group is a good one, but it is totally dependant on members being honest and sending their end of the deal. I've been on a lot of regular forums where there are always a handful of folks that don't follow through. So be prepared to deal with that.

Sounds like a good idea but not everyone is as honest as you. People might just take the giftcard and never send you what you requested. I do wish that we had more choices here on Gather for the giftcards.

It sounds great in theory. As others have said, everyone is, unfortunately, not honest. You could certainly try it with a group and see how it goes.

Sounds like an interesting idea. I have been redeeming my points for Border's Cards but I also wish that there were more options available such as clothing stores and maybe WalMart or Target

That sounds like a good idea. I like Home Depot Gift Cards. I guess becuase they have detergent, cleaning supplies, and other such stuff, which helps me from having to buy that kind of stuff at the grocery store.

I was wondering how this worked out.
It would be simpler to use your Home Depot cards for gifts and things like light bulbs, holiday decorations or whatever.
