I've given time for the reaction to set in about Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
Now that our president has won the Noble peace prize for doing nothing more then talking about "change." The Nobel peace prize has officially become a joke thanks to our president winning ir. Out of curiosity, what does that say about us Americans? Are you embarrassed that he won?
Now I did not give my opinion here, I want your reaction.

To answer your questions, what it says about us Americans is that some of us voted to elect a man to be President who also won a Nobel Peace Prize, and some of us didn't. Am I embarrassed that he won? No. The Nobel Committee chose to award the prize to Pres. to Obama. It's their prize and they can award it to whomever they like. Why should I be embarrassed about their choice?
If you're unhappy with their choice, I suppose you could award your own Peace Prize to whomever you think most deserves it, based on whatever criteria you choose to base your decision on.

The problem, as I see it, is that whatever side of the fence you are on, regardless of the issue, there is too much poison being spewed by both sides. The place if full of elephants and we as a nation are spending all of our time picking up peanut shells. Shame on all of us for allowing it to continue.
He didn't have to do anything in the first 11 days of his presidency to earn the nomination. People can nominate whomever they want, for whatever reasons they want. But as it turns out, the Nobel Committee isn't limited by either the list of people who've received nominations, or by the nomination deadline.
I'm sure it was done so that he would look the other way as Russia is now back in Cuba and spying on the U.S.
Yes the award has become a joke and even more so now for giving to a man for talking and having done NOTHING to deserve it.

Of course, I will get flamed for having an opinion because like Obama, there are people on Gather who think their opinion is the only one that matters and that the world wants to hear it over and over and over and over....(on every talk show that will allow it and then some).... :)
As we move into a sustainable economy, these large funds will lose their ability to generate the prize money that is given away each year. Think of what a stable economy looks like - one that does not have to get bigger every year.

Good article Golds... I always thought you had to do something to get it... Maybe, the committee sees him as the peace keeper by not sending troops over there and getting out of Iraq.. but this has happened yet... I am totally at a loss.. I just dont know why, he won...

Am I embarrassed as an American? No. I look at the Nobel Peace Prize as a joke even more now after this. Copenhagen should be embarrassed in my opinion.
