For our secondary competition this month I'd like to use the theme: Flowers
Rules:
- Should have an artistic quality that you would appreciate seeing at a museum.
- Altered and unaltered photos will be accepted.
- Please include your photographic and editing processes so that we can learn from your experience.
- It may or may not be your own interpretation of a classical artwork, but not a downloaded original.
- Tag your entries with "Flowers"
- You can combine your entries with current themes from other groups.
This competition will run from May 1, 2009 to May 31, 2009. Since this is a learning group, if any of you GatherVeterans ;) would like to share in a post, your photo editing or photography techniques here, they would be greatly appreciated.
This is the first month we will be judging completely by poll. If you would like your entry to be included at the start of the poll, please have your most artistic, on theme photo submitted before the last week of the month, May 24th.
Here are some examples from my archive:

While admiring the beautiful clouds we had this morning and newly blooming "Ace of Hearts," this little guy landed. Panasonic Lumix 6.0 megapx edited framing done with PhotoImpressions5 My interpretation of Realism/Naturalism

"Glossy Glam" Tiger Lily in our backyard photographed between storms 6/13/08. Charcoal effect and copyright added with PhotoImpressions5. I like how this effect brought out the sheen on the petals, not visible in the original. My interpretation of 1940's Filmography.

Wedding bouquet in my china closet taken with my Panasonic Lumix 6.0mgpx My interpretation of Symbolism

Tulip from our yard last year. Soft cropped in PhotoImpressions5. My interpretation of Realism/Naturalism
I'm looking forward to seeing your creative entries!

The b&w has such clarity.
April comes like an idiot, babbling and strewing flowers.
Thanks for the question. For the April Showers Bring May Flowers Competition, you can enter altered or unalterd photos. I just added a new regulation to the group, that we add, in our caption, the genre or style of art we are trying to emulate. So if you are going for a Neoclassicism look, you would want a photo as detailed as possible with only a hint of paint effect and possibly increased color and shadow to add drama. If you would like to create a Naturalism/Realism work, you would probably photograph a flower in its natural habitat with little or no effects added. Best of luck with your creations!

I think several of my photos have an artistic quality about them, but I don't know what the quality represents. Do I have to specify?
You don't have to - I removed that rule. I just wanted the thought process to lean more toward "what is artistic, what style am I heading toward." I'm sure you've got some good ones, Sherrie. And if you're talking about the photos you've just posted about the yard at the Blue Belle, they're gorgeous. I'd say they're art. ;)
nice theme!
