When I am doing point Nation I usually go right to the pics. It is easier to comment on with having to leave at least 10 comments each for two people. When I am going through other posts, I usually read the title and kinda read the ones that interest me first and then go back to the others. Some posts that have great grabbing titles, no matter if they have pics or not will get read. that is my way of doing it around here anyway.
i tend to go to discussions that im interested in, regardless of if there is a picture or not. but pictures in general will cause more attention i think
Don't know what you mean by "spotlight" but if you mean the title of a post, I like posts that have interesting pictures and will generally look at the photos if they are captioned well. I generally read the title of the article's post and if it catches my interest, I will read the post. Otherwise, I generally delete it and move on.
I think it used to make a difference in the featured spot of a group when a photo accompanied the article, because it made it stand out more. But with this recent upgrade and change in the group format, the photo that shows with an article is such a small thumbnail image that it doesn't seem to make a difference now.............to me, anyway.
I limit my viewing of photos since I have dial up connection and an antique computer. However, I don't think it's ever made a difference in a featured post.
it's definitely a combination between the title/subject of the article and the picture...if there is no picture, then the subject or title has to grab me...there's so much content to see!

I think it highly depends on the topic being discussed on whether it is clicked on. I've seen many articles without photo's have a lot of comments. Then again, some with photo's have more comments than one's without photo's, and I've seen the opposite, so then again, I think its the topic of discussion.
