I work in a restaurant...I do the take out orders, because the hours are short. I have been there for four years, and so far this year, business is just horrible. When I do have business, the tips are bad, or not at all!
Now I do live in Florida, so we have 'season'. It's from October to around Easter...then all the 'snowbirds' leave. But season this year was horrible, and now that everyones' gone...it's pathetic!
I also take into consideration that some people don't know that the take out person only makes as much as a server, $3.28 an hour. And out of that $3.28 an hour, I get taxes taken out, I thing it's 7% of every sale. So my paychecks are worthless! I think a lot of people think that I walk a bag out to the car, and that';s it...oh if you only knew! I have to take the order, ring it in, and then put all the food together. The cooks cook it, and that's it...I have to round it all up and put it together. And of course take it out to you...and sometimes well, in the good old days...I cam have up to twenty people at the same time. Of course, not anymore though...but it's still a lot of work t get stiffed!
I also take into the consideration that the economy sucks right now...our entire restaurant sales have been bad.
Alright, I am off to work to make no money now! Thanks for letting me complain!

Washington State has the highest minium wage in the nation at almost 8 dollars an hour.
We don't have money to go out to eat, so I am assuming that is a problem all over the place. You would be better off working at a store right now. Or try customer service, perhaps?
There is nothing like, 'I don't have a choice.' Everyone has a choice unless you want to stick to the choice you have currently.
I am sure that you have other skills to develop. You know how to publish article here and why not develop your skills in website and things like that.
Improving yourself is the only way. Not complaining.

I'm thinking if you're going to do all that work, you'd be better off working fast food. They WOULD pay at least minimum wage. And I'm betting that business doesn't get that bad once the snowbirds leave. Just a thought.
By the way folks, in Florida, there are lots and lots of minimum wage jobs - even jobs that in the north might get $12-20 an hour. Why? Because the senior citizens retire, then want to add to their social security...and will work for low wages. It's sad.
I was taxed on 10% of sales but made way more than that in tips.
Then I tried waiting here. They wanted me to claim 100% of my tips! That's not a TIP that's a paycheck advance! Forget that. They also wanted me to take orders, clean tables, do hostessing, prep food, vacuum floors, clean bathrooms, server sidework ALL for $5.25 and hour AND work weekends when I said on day one I would not work weekends.
The place is now out of business. I can't imagine why.. that's a great deal. Do the work of a hostess, SA, waitress and food prep for minimum wage! What a deal!
