Money for Nothing ~ Poetry Challenge

One day I was happy for all my gain

Next day burdens fell like rain

Estranged loved ones thought it would be smart

to heal old wounds and be nice as a start

Loved ones I didn't even know I had

Came from all over, their stories so sad

Suddenly everyone wanted to be my friend

I was so popular now - but to what end?

My children behaving, FINALLY, at last

Money as a motivator works pretty fast

We paid off our debts and those of the ones we love

Hubby and I tried to rise above

the constant pressure from those who fought

to get something for nothing as they thought they ought

 the only thing stopping them was hubby and me

our desire was to help a true charity

 battered women, cancer research, and alzheimer's all

didn't sway others from coming to call

people not spoken to in seventeen years

came arround whining their bills were in arrears

somehow it became our problem

because we would not stop and help them

nevermind we had offered help before

and to our advice they had shut their door

ignoring our help and advice given free

hoping that now we would hear how sorry

they were for their choices and help them again

oh don't you love the fair weather friend

We helped our true family and friends who were there

Those always around no matter our scare

We gave to the charities we wanted to help

and put in a college fund for our whelp

retirement funds we did that too

as our funds shrunk these "friends" did too

The money is gone now and that's okay by me

Life's back to normal and they finally let me be!
