Is 2008 Ready For Me? (Friday: Writing Essentials)

Am I ready for 2008?

The question I pose is 2008 ready for me?

I learned that time marches on no matter whether we are ready to keep step. Change like taxes and death are inevitable and I intend to make change work with me not against me.

My Office Manager has decided that his disabled employees are bringing his statistics down, so our supervisors are targeting me and my fellow coworkers (about 30). After 20 years working for SSA's 800 Service, I'm rude, condescending, and patronizing? Before leaving on vacation I asked my latest supervisor, what about all of the complimentary letters and calls from my customers she gets on a daily basis. My service can't be that bad, so I'll let my Union and EEOC representatives hash it out with Management. On Agency time, my customers are my priority, and if my call handle time is longer than someone who can type with two perfect hands; so be it. I work to live, not live to work.

My son and his family are coming down to Disney World and we expect to have the time of our lives. Daddy is coming to Fort Lauderdale in February to celebrate our birthdays. We are going to see a Broadway Show or to the Symphony - he just doesn't know it. We are going to spend sometime in Key Largo - his dream since Bogey and McCall.

My cats will still decide to use me as furniture when I try to write or read. And I have a great reading project planned. I found my mother's to be read lists for 2006 and 2007 among the Christmas decorations. The lists have every genre upon them, surprisingly. What better way to honor her memory?

Family, friends, writing, reading, volunteering, and of course Gathering, 2008 here I come!
