New and irksome thing to encounter today -- I received a phone call today. Nobody else is in the house, and the phone is located several rooms away, so I rushed to get there before the machine picked it up, assuming it was my wife calling to ask if we were out of something, or a kid, or something. Instead, when I picked up the phone, I heard,
"All of our representatives are currently assisting other customers. Please remain on the line--"
At which point I disconnected. It's bad enough when someone calls my house for a sales pitch (or whatever it is they were calling me for), but putting me on hold?

Might as well waste some of THEIR time, too, eh?
Eventually, when it starts that off-the-hook beeping at you, go hang it up again.
We don't have caller id so I usually listen for the machine to pick up so I know who it is before I answer.
Falls in the pet peeves category for most of us. Happy New Year.
bothered....
One time I did hold on and wait for them. They picked up and asked if I was being helped. I told them" you called me and put me on hold." They asked who I was, I told them the name of the company I work for. They put me on hold again. Someone else picked up and asked if I was being helped. Told them the same thing. They told me that someone dialed the wrong number. I hung up before they could say anything else.
I guess it was not that important if they had to put me on hold. They will call back.
BEST call of my life was a sales call during dinner. I was so mad, I held my breath and then I asked the rep: "What are you wearing right now?" That took her off guard and out of her sales pitch. I asked if it was sexy and are they allowed to wear skimpy things to work. She got very irritated and said, "Sir that's VERY inappropriate and ignorant as well." I replied, "NOW YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL." and hung up. Yep, good times, good times.
Another time, it was the phone company and once it was the Satellite company about the problems with the service (their end not mine.)
Otherwise, I hate them. I don't have caller id because I don't want to pay $5 a month for it. I just let the answering machine pick it up.
You can set it up to automatically disconnect any 1-800 numbers, N/A, Unavailable or any other number you don't want to get calls from after one ring.
I love it! it's drastically reduced all those annoying sales calls.
I am behind in comments, but I wanted to let you know I stopped by to view your content and thank you for posting to I was bored :)
