Here we are, the last port of call on our cruise on the Caribbean Princess in December. We booked an offshore excursion for this port also, Mountain views and Butterfly Secrets. I have wanted to go to a butterfly conservatory since viewing all of Dan's beautiful butterfly photos. The mountain views part was wonderful and we saw some very pretty scenes. This excursion will have it's own photo essay.
This is another island that doesn't have a lot of poverty. The butterfly conservatory was nice, but not what I expected. It was hard to get any good photos of the butterflies since it was rather small, had too many people there and a lot of children who wanted to touch the butterflies when they landed. I did manage to get a few. More on that in a separate photo essay. It was also very hot this day.
I'll start out this series of photo essays with scenes from around the port.
Welcome sign.

Scenes as we were pulling into dock.

We saw some beautiful boats and yachts.

One of the excursions the Caribbean Princess offered was a ride on this pirate ship.

I think they had a lot of rum punch on the trip, they sure were having fun. I captured their return trip.

A look from a high vantage point.

So there are some views of St. Thomas and the fun to be had in the Caribbean Sea.
I hope you'll take a moment to view all the photos as a slide show since they all are not posted in this article. I'm off to put together the next photo essays showing some of the beautiful flowers.

I'll include some of the history of St. Thomas in my sunset photo essay. Hope to see you there.

I will disagree with you about the poverty on St. Thomas. It is VERY real and VERY well hidden from Tourists. An old and dear friend of mine purchased the Godiva Chocolate Shop in Charlotte Amelie after retiring from the Lutheran Ministry. He and his wife lasted one year before selling out and returning home because of the terrible violence on St. Thomas. Just one of those things they don't want tourists to know about!
Looking forward to the rest :)
