Welcome back to If it's Tuesday, This Must be Belgium. It's been pretty busy around the office lately, which is good. And bad. You know the drill. :)
As I've bopped around various places I've visited, I always make a point of gawking at some sculptures or two...or three. I guess I just like sculptures. You saw a few cool ones in last week's post (or was it the previous week?), but I thought I would collect a few of them in one place. These are from various places and not in any particular order. Just some of the ones I like.
Since I'm in Brussels, we can start in Brussels. This is is the detail at the base of the memorial to soldiers from both World Wars.

And a fairly odd looking sculpture on Rue du Waterloo

Bouncing around randomly now, I loved Trevi Fountain in Rome. Here's a bit of the detail.

A poseidon-type statue in a small city in Germany.

I found this sculpture in the city hall in Helsinki (attended a reception hosted by the mayor). It's a solid piece of metal (copper), with some of it shined up. The painting behind it is pretty cool too.

Of course, what is sculpture without a trip to the Louvre in Paris. Here is the Winged Victory from the balcony.

And the equally famous Venus de Milo

The less famous but artistically more stunning...

And a sculpture from Mesopotamia? (not sure about this..could be Abyssinian).

How about a sculpture off the front of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris

And now for something completely different - a Gaudi creation from Barcelona

As long as we're in Spain. Check out this detail from the sculpture outside the bull ring in Madrid.

They say three heads are better than one.

I really liked this pretty scary looking sculpture in Valencia, Spain

I think I saw this odd one in the old town in the hills overlooking Barcelona. Not sure if it's a cow, a rhinoceros, or some Picasso-inspired amalgem.

Look closely at these two sleeping people...in the hills of Barcelona

In Prague, there are statues everywhere...seems they can't have enough of them.

On the famous Charles Bridge

Okay, now to my two favorite sculptures. First is the Kafka sculpture in Prague, Czech Republic...look closely

And the bronze bust I have of my favorite President, Abraham Lincoln. Next year is the bicentennial (200th anniversary) of his birth, and many events are planned in the US.

So Abe looks over my right shoulder as I prepare these weekly Tuesday excursions. He seems to approve. Feel free to comment, and I hope you'll come back each and every week to If it's Tuesday, This Must be Belgium.

(somehow I smiled at the three heads).
Rooster? Hmmm...
I'm hoping to get back to Rome this summer, so I'll be sure to get to the Vatican.
I actually have a couple of close ups of Winged Victory, but liked the long distance shot as a different counterpoint.
