October in North Alabama (a picture essay)

                           YOU JUST GET IN THE CAR AND.....DO IT!___________________

               Drive, enjoy the day with someone and take your camera along!

Sunday October 12, 2008....I drove no further than 20 miles from the house and with no destination in mind...I wanted no traffic so I went up the mountain from my house toward the State Park. I thought about going there, but no, ..I drove right on by the gates....then I saw a field and had to stop...then a chimney standing lonely but beautiful against the blue blue sky...

Great photo essay, Jenn, and lovely pictures! We did this a lot when I was a kid. My Dad loved to just get in the car and drive, and the farther off the beaten path we got the happier he was. I think I got my itchy, trail-bound feet from him.

Randall..it was so beautiful and sooo much fun!!and i only came across 2 stop signs the whole time....signs, not lights! That photo you liked was in someones yard looking out...

Jenn, I spent all weekend at the fire college in Tuscaloosa while DH stayed home. If I were to tell DH I was taking another day to play he might just shoot me and my camera. :)

I think my fave is the river between the mountains.
There's something about fall that really does compel one to just get in the car and drive. I know I've done it too. I love my sun roof for those moments when I need to stop quickly and just pop up for the shot. ;-)

These pictures are beautiful! What a lovely ride you must have had. It is hard to find a country road here on Long Island that there isn't traffic on, so I really enjoyed this essay.

But seriously,

Last Christmas, I tried to escape from "civilization" to areas just like this myself, but "progress" had taken over.

I did see some of the old barns, and lots of orchards, farmland, and such, but not the wide, open, remote spaces that once were there; very disappointing.

This is very, very nice.

Bobbi..the photo you liked best was someones yard.he had grown up around there and when he retired he built this beautiful home in the middle of all this . oh, I also use my sunroof,but the console in the middle gets in my way!LOL

That's my favorite way to take photos- you just have to be careful that when you see the perfect shot you don't jam on your brakes and get rear-ended! Your photos are always fabulous!!

good eye, as I expect. The first picture, you should have kicked the S's to the left or the right. It sits too static with them in the middle.

Jenn, this is the most 'scenic' photo essay I have seen in a long time.....I really enjoyed 'riding' along with you on this trip. Love all the pics but I think I my favs are the little church on the hill and the old old house. I love old houses, even if they are standing on their last legs. The little white church reminds me of so many of the little white 'country' churches in Great Smokies and traveling through Cades Cove a nice scenic route near Gatlinburg, TN. Truly, this was absolutely beautiful, -- just the 'types of things' I love to view!!! Thanks so much for sharing!!!

With Thanksgiving nearing, I thought you should know this:
After some research, there's some history I would like to share with you and hope you'll ponder this while waiting for a red light to turn green, or when feeding your husband roadkill snacks. The pilgrims did not eat turkey. They ate Peacock. After supper they did the Turkey trot for entertainment, not for leftovers.

My grandma moved to Grand Bay, Alabama with my grandpa. I loved to visit there but always wondered WHY she would move there? LOL Great shots. Guess it's shots like these that would make you stay?

Jennifer, I know this sounds exagerated, but I swear I loved these pictures as much as the others. Almost every picture put butterflies in my stomach. I love the subject matter and feeling in these pictures.
I just went through a large portfolio of water color paintings that I love ... your pictures gave me the same feelings.
