I'm no expert on any of this, but I think that health care workers are required to update on a lot of immunization shots that the average working man isn't, or they will be fired or if applying for a position will not be hired until these immunizations are current. Someone in the health care field can verify this for me. Not very long ago a friend of mine had to be vaccinated for TB afteer taking a position with a health care facility. It was a requirement.

There were a few requirements but being tested for TB was mandatory. Was not an issue.

The problem though is the vaccine hasn't been properly tested and just because someone says, "Here is a vaccine, take it..." Doesn't mean that it will do what they claim it will do, and not have any bad side affects.

As soon as Obama, all of Capitol Hill (both repubs and dems), the CDC and anyone in favor of "big goverment" gets their shots... then I will get in line to get mine!

We have the right for the government to be responsible and properly TEST all vaccines that they mandate... when they have done that, then I will consider getting it... until then, I am thankful Texas has state exemptions for vaccines. My children's philosophical exemptions are on file at their schools!

Here ~ Here Heidi Cole! I agree with all that you said, EXCEPT, I don't care WHO gets in line to get the vaccinations, I won't be behind them -- TRUST me on that!

TESTING? They have tested and many of the people are DEAD.

So glad your children have PHILOSOPHICAL EXEMPTIONS on file at their schools. I hope you report back to us if they are infringed upon.

John ~ I'd say that people are thinking about their RIGHT to LIFE ~ RIGHT to LIVE ~ RIGHT to make their own choices for themselves. Being a follower of MEN who lead people to the grave is NOT being RESPONSIBLE. That includes the MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS. Just because the Doctor said so . . . please!! Some Doctors kill people you know.

Hummm... Well, I don't know about this. If, and when, the shots are properly tested, OK. But I can't have them, anyway. I'm allergic to eggs and the virus is grown on, or in, eggs.

My sister is an RN who works in an ER. In Feb. of this year, she was exposed to the swine flu and got it. She actually did not get that sick, but her husband got VERY sick for well over a week. I think the resolution here is, keep the vaccines voluntary. But, if you choose not to get the vaccine, you are not covered by insurance if you get it. You pay out of pocket.

BTW, I am also an RN. The way our hospital is doing this, is if you choose not to get the vaccine, you pay the highest tier of health insurance premium.

Hi Jane ~ Thanks for adding in your input. Your Sister and her husband both got the Swine Flu, but did not get the vaccinations.

They are ALIVE -- right?

Yes, they are but she's a nurse. Thankfully, her hospital gave her sick time after her exposure thus preventing her from spreading this to elderly, vulnerable pts. Renee, the same people who are screaming about their rights not to be vaccinated would sue a hospital in a heartbeat if they found out a doctor or nurse infected their family member.

This same argument is being heard from smokers too since a lot of hospitals are smoke free, inside and out. No one should be forced to do or not do something. One day, the Supreme Court will get involved and judge on the side of the individual. But what will happen is that insurance companies will start charging people who smoke, are obese or don't get flu shots more for their premiums. Smokers will see obscenely high health insurance premiums very soon. This is how bad behaviors (I don't really include flu shot avoiders here) will be stopped, it will just get too expensive.

Jane ~ You've really provided something to think about. Policing people and their habits -- HOW ODD. What about the DRUG ADDICTS, the ALCOHOLICS, . . . aren't they a medical threat? SMOKERS compared to DRUG ADDICTS? What about those who are STRESSED out ~ MENTALLY ILL? What about HIV patients . . .

It goes on and on and on and on . . .

It is really just TOO BAD that WE are not ALL PERFECTLY HEALTHY. It sounds like PUNISHMENT for those who are not, and those who do not want to be injected with sicknesses. Doesn't it?

I think the end result will not be policing, but obscene health insurance premiums for those who choose to live unhealthy.

But Jane ~ WHO (in their right mind) would CHOOSE to LIVE UNHEALTHY?

I would think that the issue is COST. And, if individuals do not have the money to pay regular premiums, I doubt that they will pay obscene insurance premiums either ~ as you've mentioned above.

So essence, the problem then is still not solved with that logic.

I'm not saying this should happen. I'm saying it will unless these insurance companies are reigned in. Smokers are one group that does choose to be unhealthy, especially with all of the help available now.

Okay I agree that the INSURANCE COMPANIES need to be policed ~ not the people who need the insurance.

You have mentioned the SMOKERS, but there are others who do not take the medicine that would help them to avoid further health issues. There are also those who DRINK heavily...those who eat too much...those who do drugs...and on and on...

There is no way to single out any particular GROUP of PEOPLE with regard to HEALTH MATTERS, because but for the grace of God, any one of us could need assistance in the area of MEDICINE.

The solution would be to help to educate people on healthy living. Healthy eating. Healthy breathing...not living in toxic areas, not drinking toxic water, not eating contaminated foods....

And yes, like you've mentioned, not SMOKING, not drinking EXCESSIVE ALCOHOL, not doing DRUGS, not living on the EDGE...

I agree rene. Though individuals are responsible for choices they make ... it will be more realistic for us to all share the increase in premiums while we continue to encourage healthy living than to begin to judge and penalize individuals for their particular weaknesses. There's just something scary about that.

You know what I really think Glome ~ I think that the pharmaceutical companies, oil companies, insurance companies, gas stations, utility companies, banks, etc.... have made enough money off of all of us that we should not have to pay a penny for anything for a very long time! Share the cost and/or increase in premiums? No. I think there should be no premiums.

It should NEVER be mandatory to inject a virus no one knows anything about into your body. A virus that you very well may not get without the vaccination.

To make a job hinge on this theory is all kinds of wrong.

Let me ask a question. The nose vaccination is live virus. The shots are not.
If I ran a nursing home or hospital ... as much as I claim I am for individual freedom, I would require my workers to get the shot.
Would you all accept the shot rather than the live virus? Does it not seem to you that it would be less risky due to the vulnerable patients or does it just seem to much a violation to your personal freedom even in this situation? I'm just curious.

I heard the opposite, Glome. Nose is dead needles (which Gideon would need TWO OF) are LIVE. Now I'm wondering if there was misinformation out there since we heard different things.

I would accept neither live or dead. I am home with just family and my chances are extremely HIGH of NOT getting it. Why would I put it inside me if I'm more likely than not safe from getting it?

Oh, and in case you wondered, I don't get the "regular" flu shot every year either. Nor does my son (who is almost 7) or my husband.

There was an article up about that - a death apparently from the shot here on Gather.

I'm sorry to hear that Jen. But that is EXACTLY what I thought was raising the number of deaths.

We may never know. That's the scary part of it all.

The vaccines here in WI are FREE and NOT mandatory. We will not be lining up to get it and any medical issues we currently have will hopefully wait until this blows over as I'm leery of being in a clinic waiting room with the spread of germs.

It is interesting that NOW we all think more about "germs" than we use to Jen. I'm sure that others may feel the same way. I think about germs when walking into anywhere where people are coughing. I know that much of it is psychological, but then somehow the air doesn't feel as clear and free when people are hacking and coughing all over the place. It is especially discomforting in a Restaurant. So I feel you Jen ~ l o l.

Yeah you are right we are more aware, and products are FEEDING on that. I was in Walmart buying cereal and now cereal boxes tout that they boost immunity. They never used to, but boy are they now. And commercials are saying kills germs (including H1N1) These companies are trying to profit off this crap. (Not that I'm all that surprised, I'm not, but still)

OMG Jen ~ CEREAL boxes advertising to the realm of sickness. Now you know this is just too much! I think that was the plan all along . . . Get them all SCARED UP, then hit them with products that dispel the FEAR FACTOR. And, if possible, get them hooked on medications.

If WE would all just eat right, (go back to growing our own foods), raising our own fish, that would take care of the whole SHABANG!

Our government and academia have become nothing more than a fraud and we fund the whole thing and keep asking for more. They create problems so that they can "solve" them. You will note that not one government agency is looking for the lab that created this virus. It's not natural. We will never know the truth behind this or any of the other spurious "disasters" perpetrated by the narcissistic societies of acronyms. It mist be too much CO2. The majority of the population does not understand much of science and the over abundance of junk science and will do whatever the doctor orders. Responsibility starts at the top. It's funny how all those who are elected or paid to be responsible for a specific thing can shirk their responsibilities and blatantly violate the laws and we treat them like heros and those who take their job seriously in the best interest of the general public gets thrown under the bus.

Hi Blind Lady Liberty ~ I definitely agree with you that this virus is not natural ~ nor is AIDS ~ nor are many other known viruses that SUDDENLY pop out of no~where. It is a sick sense of GREED. Making money off of FEAR and MEDICINES that promote even more medicine to cure the aches and pains from the medicine. In some cases, it is the MEDICINE that kills.
