I'm back!! Mexico was unbelievable :) We got there on Sunday afternoon and checked into our resort. We stayed
at Riu Palace las Americas. It's a 4 or 5 star, all inclusive place. The resort was beautiful and to go all out we got an ocean view room. The food was great, drinks unlimited, and the service remarkable. All we did was lay out on the beach all day and drink fruity strawberry daiquiris and mango coladas.
We were originally a little weary trying to go to Mexico in September with it being the peak hurricane season and rainy month. The second wave of the swine flu didn't help either. However I'm glad we decided to go anyways because everything worked out in our favor. The weather was great! It rained for about 5 minutes when we got there, and a couple of times at night but other than that it was sunny the rest of the week. Also, someone told me that there are only about 3 cases of reported swine flu in Cancun so it wasn't as big of a deal and people made it out to be.
This was my third time visiting Mexico and I finally got to do something I haven't done before and that is go see the Mayan ruins. There are two places to see them one is Tulum and Chichen Itza. I went to Tulum which is situated on a cliff overlooking the ocean. The views were breathtaking. Our guide was very knowledgeable and taught us a lot about the ancient Mayan culture and traditions. One o
f the really cool things was his explanation of what that little structure next to the bigger building is (see the picture on the left). It looks like a dog house but it really isn't. It was more or less a hurricane detector. When wind passes through open spaces or cracks it whistles. Well that's what the purpose of the structure was. It stood on the cliff and when it would begin to whistle people would know a hurricane or a storm was coming and would move inland for safety. What is even more fascinating is that apparently it could be heard 3 or 4 miles away. Can you believe they thought of that?
While in Can

cun we also visited Senor Frogs. I've been there before but my friends wanted to go just to say that they have gone. That place is a tourist trap! It's about as Mexican as Taco Bell. There is not a single word in Spanish on the menu, not a single sign in Spanish inside the place, service is crappy and everything is way overpriced. Tourists go there just because it's famous but my recommendation is to just skip it altogether.
Other than being dragged to Senor Frogs for overpriced food and drinks, the trip was great. Mexico is a fun, relaxing place to visit and really cheap during the off season. Everyone should consider it for their next vacation :)

I used to travel to Mexico for business, and I loved it.
