An Overload of Fungi

I know that I am not the only person fascinated with fungi.  There are photos all over Gather of mushrooms.  Maybe it is the time of year or maybe it is because of recent rains but we have a plethora of fungi popping up everywhere in north Georgia. 

The following photos were taken within the last two weeks.

I've never seen any of these before. I remember last year, a guy from Utah University I think, came to research mushrooms here in our national park and discovered some new ones. I think I have that report somewhere.

Your fungi are really rather elegant. We usually get lots, but this year just one very unpleasant-looking amorphous brown blob.

That's quite a variety of fungi you managed to capture, Kat! I've never seen the bright red ones. Amazing collection!

More than likely none of these can be eaten, safely. I've never seen a truffle so I don't know.

You got great shots of a really nice variety.

I don't know what we have growing around here. I never venture into the woods; there are too many large animals that could potentially be wandering about (i.e., bears). Plus, we're headed into hunting season; people are already doing target practice... or poaching. Take your pick...
