Anybody here using the new Passport "Card" instead of a traditional passport? I just heard about it. Not valid for international travel, but good for many places I would visit. Cheaper too, for 1st time, or even if you're going to renew. This is the only WIKI LINK I have found on the card so far.
Just curious. Thank you.

Interesting post, I didn't know anything about passport cards.
It was new to me too. Comments are helping what it is, and $$$.
Didn't know about them. We have "enhanced IDs" (real ID) offered here in NY.
A surprise to me. Yup, some people can use them as an ID only too.
thanks dear
I've heard of them, my neighbors have them, but don't know anything about them. Had we known about them a few months ago, we would have been able to go the Canada side of the Falls when we went. *sigh*
A bit expensive just to cross the bridge once to see water(?) :)
I was going to get one since they're a lot less expensive than a passport and it's all I need since I mostly travel to Canada or Mexico. But, I gotta find a place that doesn't charge a ton of fees on top of the costs. I went to the post office and not only to you pay the standard $20 fee, you MUST use a photo taken by them for $15 and then pay another $25 for processing. So, you end up paying more in fees than you do for the actual card. I think other places let you use your own photos and perhaps charge less for processing, so I will look around. I'm not in any hurry right now.
Thanks for the extra tips. Hopefully the cost would be reasonable, and not so many extra take your money tricks.
Nope...as long as my full passport is valid, I have no use for one. But, I think they are a good alternative for people traveling to Canada or Mexico.
It said $20 if its time to renew your passport, but DD above says there are more hidden costs involved?
This is interesting R B. I had not heard anything about this. Hmmm curious about the chip tho. I read the link you gave and makes me wonder how long it will be before they start chipping our DL? This would be good to have tho just in case I get a wild hair and want to go to Canada. Personally have no desire to go to Mexico ... I hear enough of their language here.
I don't understand the language, but enjoy the Caribbean sun, beach, and Tequilla more than Canada. (I don't speak French either) Its already possible to put a chip in your head, if you want one. :)
I don't even have a passport.
Some people don't need/use them.
I don't have a passport either but this passport card might be a good alternative.
I have never heard of the passport card.. but since it's not valid for international travel anywhere except mexico or canada, I don't think I'd benefit from it.. I don't usually go there.. and if I do travel..I'm usually going to Asia..
It's limited now, but may expand to other countries.
We applied for ours last week.
Really simple at the post office.
about $120 out the door.
$45 card + $15 photo X 2 = $120?
Are passports still $90 ea? Both good 10 yrs for adults.
nope. I do'nt have a passport at all
Thanks for the info ,R B .
