"The following came to me this morning. Bear in mind it came quickly and I wrote it down as quickly as I could. There are many people that I know and love who struggle with addictions. They have to make the choice to better themselves. Although I am there to pick them up when they fall, I cannot subject myself to the pain. I cannot lead them to the path. They must choose to take it. I will be there to help them when and if they do."
Does life frighten you so much that you cannot stare it cold in the face? Do you find you are not capable of the sheer joy that life brings? Life does come with its fair share of pain and struggles. The poison you put into your body does not make you strong. It weakens your mind and makes you more vulnerable to the demons that prey upon you like a babe left alone in the woods. They own your soul.
Your eyes that once twinkled and danced like stars in the night sky are now dim and lifeless. No longer does your skin glow with health. Grey dark circles form beneath your eyes. Sadness darkens your features. Your smile is not a true smile. It is painted on to try to fool the world into believing that everything is right as rain.
A tale of half-truths and lies flow from your lips. You spin a web of deceit so often that you come to believe the words you speak to be truth.
You have chosen a destructive path to walk upon. What you fail to realize is that you are not walking, but crawling along through the muck and mire. Your body is withering away, losing strength. Sooner or later this path you have chosen could come to a dead end.
Along the path are different twists and turns. You can choose to stay upon the path or choose to take a different route. Yes, it can be rocky and difficult. This road can lead to brighter pastures. If you choose this way, no longer will you be in darkness. No longer will you need to paint a smile on your face as it will come from within and shine. Your body will become strong again.
Always remember that you are never alone. There are many who will stand guard against the demons and help guide and protect you on your journey. You only need to take the first step off that darkened path.

Sometimes it's easier said then done though.
What a beautifully written post.
I also agree with Norma. But, there are also times if the addiction is coming from within your own home and you end up being their victim, that you need to get out. It's very hard to feel love then.

Also to say I hope you had a good Mothers Day.
Addiction is so hard to understand. My brother committed suicide the long, slow way - because of his addition to alcohol. He chose to be homeless. He chose his addition over his family. He lost everything, but hugged that bottle tight. How sad.
Thanks for sharing!
I tried most of my life to help those people I met and loved, but sometimes, they don't want help. It's sadder to watch than to be the people who have chosen a path of addiction.
Love you, Mom
