The Clever Robin

With the arrival of Spring, it's a delight to the eyes to spot those Red Robins bouncing around the yard. Hopefully to become nice fat Robins as they feast on worms. How many times have you watched one walk around, then stop, cock his head a bit, then pull his snack from the ground.

Don't you wonder how they do it? What is their trick?

Does a Robin:

smell a worm?

see a worm?

hear a worm?

feel vibration of a worm?

 

No prizes or rewards, just some silly nonsense today.

I think they look for them and that is why they are on the ground so much. Closer to eye level.

They are looking for the slightest movement of the grass and earth which tells them there is an earthworm under the surface.

Maybe a little bit of all the above. I suppose it might even feel like an earth quake to a robin when a worm is moving in the soil.
