The last week has been quite interesting! Last Friday my college sponsored a comedian to come to our school; Buzz Sutherland. He was pretty funny and it was my first time hearing him. Afterwards my friends and I were standing in the lobby and he came out and asked about finding the way out "I came down some steps and into a place that looked like a burger joint..." So we helped him find his car. This makes the third 'famous' person I've met in the last year. The first was the author of "Power of 5" and is a motivational christain author. I was just sitting in my seat (worried and depressed about a guy) and he approached me and started chatting away with me. It's true that just talking to and complimenting someone can really brighten their day. The other was our current president Obama back in late October.
So, my college sent out an email for dinners with some of our guest speakers coming up and interestingly Jack Thompson and Gerard Jones were on the list. Jack Thompson sued a lot of game companies and spoke out aganist gaming violence while Gerard is a comic book artist for comics like the Gree Lanturn and wrote a book about the postive effects of video games on children. So...I'm having dinner with both of them which should be pretty interesting.
I posted last week that my *new* cellphone went missing. I had my original one stolen when I was baking for a christmas party for my friends and it was never recovered. I bought a new one and last monday I was coming back from a religious event on campus and it disappeared between the time I put it in my purse and the way back to the house. It was snowing a lot and despite my calls and searches with friends I couldn't find it. Then this monday I recieved an email stating it had been found. I went and got it and it still had battery power and I asked who turned it in. The woman didn't know, but I wish she had. I really wanted to thank whoever had found it. So I turned in the replacement for a refund and I'm happy to have my new one back.
I also got an email from the school about a trip they're planning to do for Japan. I went to the meeting and found out it was more bussiness oriented than a cultural experience so I decided aganist it. I was sad, because I've been wanting to go to Japan for at least six years now. I've just never had the opportunity to do it and I don't have a chance to do a study abroad now, but once I graduate I might be able to do it and I'm planning on it. I want to see the world, but it costs money and has to fit into my schedule.
I've been doing pretty well in my classes so far. I'm not used to having so many quizzes and tests, but this semester I have a lot in every class. In Abnormal Psychology we've been going through the basics before heading into the real meat of the class (the history behind abnormal psychology is interesting). In my relationships class we've been looking at odds and ends too and different family theories. Textiles I've been learning a lot about different textiles. It's not the most interesting but it does have a wealth of information. Then, my favorite class, culture of Japan. It's odd...but in that class (based on my interest in Japan) I know a lot about what the professor is talking about so some of it's a review for me. But, we learned about fesitvals yesterday along with Valentines Day & White Day (more on that with my continuing Japan articles).
So, dinner with a disbarred lawyer, an invite for a research project, an invite to the president (college) for dinner and finding my phone. How's your week going so far, anything interesting?
