Comments here and there

 

I was looking around and notice that some folks do over 1000 comments a day. I am not saying this is wrong yet I find it hard to do. Let say gatherite A does 1200 comment in one day. that is 50 comments an hour, in a 24 hour period, Yet who is on this Gather for 24 hours,, I say the most anyone without a job or anything could be here 8 hours all in one day. That is 150 comments in an hour of the 8 hour period, that is 2.5 comment per minute.

 

Gee do we even take the time to read all post or look at pictures and or videos. Or race through for that all mighty point. I myself I can not be here more then 2 hours at one sitting, Which last night I figured out that I did 40 comment in that 2 hours, and is abit over 20 comments in once hour. That is only .3 comment in a minute, I know I am slow yet that make me feel so bad that I cant keep up with all of you folks doing all them comments. I prefer to read the post, and take my time to apprecaite all your work and see the glories you see when you take the pictures or be proud of your video as I am. Something tell me it just in for the money, yes I know we need the money esp nowadays.. Yet I like to stop and smell my life of roses and love those around me. So I guess I am saying is WOW I am proud of you and all your hard works, yet do remember that Birthday cake is totally awesome and someone really need our prayers. Or the cool snow falls down south,, We must appreciate what is around us,, I sure do,

 

 

**note please dont offence of this in anyway, It something to make ALL think about,, I am not here to pick on anyone, nor pin "you are bad on anyone" I appreciate all my friends and all that you do, and if you can do better then great, you are still great in my heart and eyes...

I hear you. I've had my insane moments of just trying to get points but I'd rather have someone appreciate what I say and do. I try to show that same appreciation. At the beginning of the year I joined every "post anything" group I could, only to find myself getting several "thanks for posting to" comments. I decided I don't need points so bad that I'm willing to accept those kind of comments. I'd rather know that something I wrote or took a picture of or video'd made someone think or smile or sometimes laugh or cry. I'm too passionate about my work to "settle" for just points. ~ thought provoking post by the way :)

That is rather amazing. I guess that would be one of the people who says that earning $300 a month here is a possibility.

Well, maybe some people have nothing else to do so they spend days and nights here on Gather.....LOL! I really don't like the "generic" comments.....I guess they come from those who are trying to do thousands of comments a day. Besides, I always like to write a good comment, not just 2, 3, 4, or 5 words, either!!!!!! Oh well, I DO have a "real" life, with a family and have other obligations, besides the computer......plus, I also have lots of other points programs so have to divide my time up accordingly.....I don't worry about it, just do what I can.

I could not imagine being able to do that, if you use the example you gave of 50 comments per hour that is only 1.2 minutes spent on each article, don't get me wrong I know how to read but some posts are lengthy or some I have to read twice really understand what the writer is trying to portray. I some cases 1.2 minutes would not be enough.

Some members do post an incredible number of comments each day. However, most of these comments violate the Terms of Service. Comments should be applicable to the content and further the discussion in some way. A simple "thanks" or "paying it forward!" posted hundreds of times across the community doesn't fit within site policy...not to mention dominating the "My Gather" pages of others in the community.

wow, I could not do that many. Granted I don't have a job but I have other stuff to do like clean house, cook, take care of my 2 year old. I get behind on here alot but I try to make up for it.

I believe some people sit at their computers far more than 8 hours a day. I've been on some other sites that no matter what time of day I manage to login, these people are here. It wouldn't surprise me if some people are on Gather 12-16 hours a day. Faster connections, faster reading, who knows?

Remember Boomertowne? I had people tell me I was doing it all wrong. One lady told me not to bother reading the jokes and quotations, just get my points. As it worked out, the enjoyment I received reading was the only benefit I got. She was doing all that work and ended up getting nothing while I was learning and enjoying. Not that Gather will go the same way, but the point is that "smelling the roses" is its own reward.

So I'm content with enjoying and reading. I wish I could get my points to that magic 100 a day, but lately I'm not making that a week. But I start up my computer every day, looking forward to what I find on Gather.

Points are great. But I LOVE TO TALK! lol and getting my opinion out just makes me feel better. Especially since I have nobody to talk to all day except my 72 animals. But that would make me crazy! :)

People are here for different reasons and do different things. These people are in it for the points quite obviously. They don't care about reading things or talking with folks. They just hope you'll return the favor and open their posts so they get the page views for even more points. Whatever somebody wants to do and however much time they want to put into it. It does pay like a full time job, so it's not worth full time hours.

I have no idea how many comments I make per day, I'm here a lot, but I'm fairly sure it's not above 1,000, I don't think I have the stamina for that. Everyone is here for their own reasons, and I tend to only comment on the posts that appeal to me.

on days when i can't spend time reading everything, i will cut and paste a message to let them know i was there... it all depends on how long i have to gather that particular day... i definitely don't do more than 1,000, though! eek!

Kevin is right. Many of those comments probably do violate the TOS.

If you look at what those people with the huge numbers of comments posted in a day are actually posting, you will find that many of them are engaged in comment spamming.

1000 comments? Yikes! I don't know how many I get, but it's nowhere near that. Even if I'm going through and helping out (like viewing the Help These Articles/etc for Comment Speedway) I still take the time to leave an actual message. The only time I really don't is when I'm helping moderate a bunch of content. Then I post the message and go. Unless I really enjoy what I see.

I also get a little irritated when I get comments from someone who does nothing but c&p the message. I open my inbox to see that, lets say, Snoober has commented on my pictures. Over 20 comments! Yay! Then I look and they all say the exact same thing. Great one! or neat or nice pic. Why even bother? I like to know that people look and comment on my stuff because they want to. Not because they feel some obligation to pay me back. If they want to visit my stuff, fine. They don't have to leave a message on each and every thing. If they want to leave one saying that they've checked out a bunch of my stuff on some random article, go ahead.

Sorry. That one just kind of irks me too.... =)

I think a lot of those are like what Kevin said, just standard comments that don't directly relate to the content. It takes me a long time to do comments, I don't even know how many I do a day. I kind of come back in and out throughout the day.

I have always thought something was fishy with that... It does prove people who do that, don't really read your stuff. The best I have ever done was about 325 comments in one day and it about killed me! LOL

it would obviously mean they are opening and just pasting a comment...I am guilty of that in my own group, the thanks for posting to...however sometimes I just have to put a real comment...but, I do read what is posted not just open it and paste my comment.....well, unless it's a game, an joke from email, that type of stuff (sorry, but those posts just don't interest me)

1000 comments = 41.7 per hour in a 24 hour day. = .695 per minute = one comment every .01 seconds that is a tenth of a second working 24 hours a day. There is no way! Only and automatic program to answer posts could do it.

It takes Gather close to a full minute to download a post on my computer. No other site jsut Gather. I could download 60 an hour without reading anything. In a 10 hour day I could possably get 600 click throughs with no comments what-so-ever.

Hi Steph! I couldn't imagine posting that many comments in a month let alone a week. I prefer to read through the article that someone has written. When someone takes the time and effort to share a story I will read it before I comment. Sometimes my comments are shorter than others, but I like to leave a note to that person to let them know I was there and the article was read.
I just do whatever I like here on gather, whether it is a short "nice pic"comment, or something more. As long as I am enjoying myself & having fun~

Stephanie, I try and comment on most people that post on me, my problem is I read the whole thread, and that takes time, but then I know what all is about, I have to learn to read the article and skip the thread, and then more people would hear from me, I have to be up early another ambulance adventure tomorrow, so goodnight now, love you, Elsie
some people can comment 4 and 5 times a minute when they play listing games.......
hahaha..........

and I have seen some who can even comment more times than that...
so I can see it being possible..........

I ended up with a ton of comments last night because I had a chat going. I still didn't have half that many comments when I looked today.
