How exactly is this bill related to gun ownership? It seems to me that it is about time some attention be paid to the matter. So, I guess, I disagree with you on this one.

The bill says absolutely nothing about guns. What a shocker. Why is it that republiCONs are simply incapable of telling the truth, EVER?

Interesting to note that 4 republicans have co-sponsored this bill, though there seems to be no uproar whatsoever directed at these politicians.

Also worth noting is that the US has, for many years, contributed FAR less in terms of a percentage of GDP, to eradicating extreme global poverty.

Finally, isn't it telling that the republiCONs don't even bat an eye at pissing away over $1 trillion each and every year on the military industrial complex, and on killing humans around the world, but the moment somebody proposes something for the GOOD of humanity, all hell breaks loose in wingnut land.

While we're busy pumping money we don't have into the mouths of hungry third world citizens around the globe, what about those right here at home who go hungry because they can't afford food? It's nice to be able to help others...using anything left after we take care of our own first! What about their governments helping their own people out? Maybe even put educational programs in place teaching them not to live beyond their means. If they can't feed their own children; don't have any. How many of these nations even offer assistance to America when things happen here? How many of these nations offer to help feed our hungry? How many other 'rich' nations around the globe step up to help others like the U.S. does? Take care of your own back yard before your mow the neighbor's.

Since world hatred of the US is at an all time high, I can't personally think of a more prudent measure to benefit the US than to reach out to help the world's most needy. Aside from that, it's what Jesus the Christ would've proposed the richest nation on earth to do.

It should be aptly noted that the poverty and misery that is dragging the US down is the direct result of 27 years of errant, dangerously failed republiCON economics policies.

However, it is also worth noting that, in comparison to the abject poverty that exists around the world, what America suffers is nothing. We do not have millions of children literally dying of malnutrition and dehydration, nor do we have the unimaginable horrors of dysentry, cholera, typhoid, and malaria, among many other awful diseases of the impoverished world.

Decades ago, the wealthy nations of the UN agreed to contribute 0.7% of their GNI to eradicate or at least alleviate the suffering of extreme poverty in the world. This number has NEVER been met, although every nation far exceeds the US in their charitable giving.

It is said that, for roughly $40-$50 billion annually, or about what we spend every 4 months in Iraq, world hunger could be eliminated. We have an obligation, as a wealthy nation, and especially as the wealthiest nation in the world, to do whatever we can to minimize human suffering, and if we could single-handedly wipe out hunger for less than 1/3 what we're wasting in Iraq, shame on us for not doing more than we do.

If we can afford to kill people, we can afford to help people.
