I had to write a letter of appreciation to someone in my life for the Personal Development class I am taking for my job as a Native Counselor. Here is a copy of the letter I wrote to my husband. It is really simple but I think it reflects how our relationship is between us.
To My Husband Ron:
For an assignment for my class I have to write a letter of appreciation to someone in my life. So here goes:
Thank you for loving me the way I am and not wanting me to be anything else besides the way I am.
Thank you for your humor, you are keeping us both young at heart.
Thank you for letting me work- not demanding I stay home or demanding that I have to work, just letting me work at jobs that I feel suit me.
Thank you for putting food on the table, through cooking, hunting, fishing and bringing our family out to gather food summer time.
Thank you for holding our family together through the times when we lost our loved ones.
Even though we miss you when you travel; thank you for working for our people to make the world better for our kids and grandkids.
Thank you for teaching our son so much- he can leave home and succeed in the world because you gave him confidence in his skills and roots in his culture.
Thank you for sharing the joy of raising our kids and grandkids together with me. They will remember your love and laughter when they are elders.
We don't always get along, so thank you for keeping an open mind and keeping an open heart and remind me that I have to do the same.
Thank you for putting up with my moods. Dealing with our daughter with bipolar made me realize that she gets her disorder from me. You saved my soul when I was her age and brought me back from darkness.
Thank you for staying with us even though we don't show our appreciation for you enough. We love you. Sorry we don't say thank you enough and sorry for waiting to do this because it was a college assignment and please remind all of us to be appreciative of the people in our lives.
Love you,
Roberta
