I was walking around Fargo Georgia and stopped to take a photo of a hornet's nest that is attached to a house. I met the owner of the house, and while we were talking, I got these shots of a woodpecker. They aren't the best in the best in teh world but it wouldn't stay still!

(Are you eating it for Thanksgiving dinner?)
That's what I thought it was, actually, but I don't know birds.
That was said of you, recently.
Must have been female........
Friday at lunchtime when my boyfriend and I were sitting at the park by the river, we saw several different birds. Someone had left bread crumbs and sunflower seeds out. We saw nuthatches, chickadees, sparrows, titmouse, and a couple blue jays - I honked when the bluejays flew down so the little birds could get some. There were also several pairs of mallards across the river.
I know just a little more than that, Faith.
First, I noticed articles by Atticus on PELICANS and CORMORANTS,
~ then Rose, the GA Peach, posted pictures of black RAVENS,
~ Ed Nudelman writes poems about BLACK-BILLED CUCKOOS and SWANS
~ on the same day I write about DOVES and TURKEYS...
Now you have us looking at WOODPECKERS. What's going on?
Is Gather going to the birds!?
Thans for the nifty fifty star on this one. I'm glad you liked them, and I'm glad it made you think about your own birds.
Photos incoming?????
BOO! HISS!
That wasp nest makes me cringe. I got stung twice finding one of those nests in a hedge.
I keep looking for an Ivory bill. I keep hoping there is one in The Swamp.
The look pretty in your photo's. Our local bird population seems to consist primarily of grackles... big black scavenger type birds that hang out near any place they think they can scam food... on the Riverwalk they are so bad the park police spend time shooting air rifles to scare them off.
About the only interesting birds I've seen here in the city were some Cardinals that used to hang out near one of the offices I worked out of several years ago.
My mom's the 'birder' in our family. I remember blue jays dive bombing her one day in our backyard... she had one of the cats draped over her shoulder and the Jays wanted him bad!
How is Kacy?
