Wanting to get out of my 22 foot trailer, really tired of the ruff winter; I hoped a short hike would help me through the Fibromyalgia pain. I was watching butterflies flits around, taking in the fresh air and eyeballing the awesome view.

I wanted to get some close-ups of the all too allusive butterflies and the unusually good choice of wildflowers this year; because of all the well needed rain.

I believe the monarch makes its first trek out about this time of year and it is a real pleasure to see them drinking up the beauty of the landscape.

When I knelt down I got that familiar adreline rush as I saw colors and a pattern I knew all too well. I slowly backed up realizing it was stretched out, which gave me more time to regroup. It had been a really coat chilly, warm, then windy day; which brought the chill factor pretty low. It had obviously been moving then got too chilled to move. Lucky for me! Can you see it in the grass and wildflowers?

Can you see it now?

How about now?

Yes, I grabbed a stick to pull it out, because as you know, curiosity killed the cat, and I Just HAD to see how big it was?
From the looks of the rattle snake it had been eating already, which means it had a pretty good jump start on its cousins. He/she was about ten years old by the count of the rattles, which means he is pretty savvy. I just had to get these pictures of the wildflowers.

Now you can really see the diamond pattern and how fat it was.

Look how well it blends in with the terrain.

So when you are out looking for the perfect view and picture; even when it still feels like winter?? Don’t forget to look for the SNAKE in the GRASS! Have a safe and wonderful Holiday season!

(great article)
BUT YIKES !!!!
Good article.
Rose, you are braver than I am. I absolutely hate snakes, poisonous or not.
You put it so well!
Thanks
This one is nicely photographed.
The dog lived, but the snake didn't. Mom and gramma took care of him.
I don't like to kill things, but sometimes you have to do what it takes to survive. There's nothing than reaching into something, getting bit by a rattler...and being 30 miles from town.
Unless you are the neighbor who got bit so many times he was immune!
I got a little carried away reliving my youth.
Snake in the Grass
Have a truly blessed day!
