Who would you choose....?

January 24, 2009 11:05 PM EST

If you could live next door to anyone in the world, who would you choose?

My choices in the past would have included, but were not limited to, Patrick Swayze, Hugh Jackman, Harrison Ford, Sam Elliott and Matthew McConaughey.

While I wouldn't discourage any of these lovely gentlemen from moving in next door, I'm beginning to think that there may be more practical choices.

Kim Kommando could teach me a lot about computer technology.  Martha Stewart could help me cook and decorate my home.  Dale Earnhardt, jr. could make sure I never miss a flight and Joel Osteen would keep me from trespassing against anyone, blowing my chance of ever going to Glory.

If you worry about crime in your neighborhood, having a former president or one of his family members and the attendant Secret Service agents might put those fears to rest.

Who is your dream neighbor?

I am with Marilyn M. My first and main choice is family: my parents b/c they are elderly, although thank God they are still in good health, my 3 surviving brothers b/c the youngest died suddenly and unexpectedly in March 1998, and my children and grandchildren, just b/c I love them so much. Don't misunderstand: I love everyone I have mentioned. Other relatives and friends, old and new, would just be a bonus.

Hmmm. Very hard because we live on a 40 acre plot with NO NEIGHBORS but mother nature. I think I kinda like the privacy-HA! HA! I look outside and I just don't think I want to see another house next door to me-LOL!

someone who doesn't take illegal ..or make illegal...drugs, get drunk and get loud. Someone who picks up their garbage, realizes others are sharing the planet and have just as many of the same rights and doesn't engage in beating up family members or shooting off fire arms or other explosives. Someone like ....me.

WOW, Sam Elliot was a great choice. Any book publisher would be nice. but, c'mon - Jan - (1) you live on a lake, (2) you have winters like I did in my youth and (3) you love Streaker and I could always leave her with you when i travel. Guess you'd be my perfect neighbor. Or Halle Berry...............................................

I would love George Clooney as a neighbor, or Robert Redford. Just imagine where I would be living to be their neighbors! Not only that, but they are into a lot of things I am, conservation, the situation in Darfur, and for fun I would love Goldie Hawn, I bet she is a riot.. Fun post Jan. Ellen B

George Clooney is going to shoot a movie in our town. Sure would love to be an extra in that one. They need 2100. Casting calls today at one of our local malls...HMMM! :)))

I'd want my best friend, Scott, living next door to me. What a neighborhood that would be. We'd be running back and forth to each others homes constantly. I wouldn't care who else lived around me. I'd take each neighbor on an individual basis as to how I interact with them. I most generally don't bother neighbors and really don't get too close to them.

Unfortunately, all the ones I would choose are gone, like Emerson--who loved sharing conversation with his Transcendental friends. "Hawthorne once wrote that my idea of farming was to lean on a hoe, while Thoreau leaned upon a rake, and Alcott sat on the fence."

Easy. JESUS.

I'd never be sick, hungry, cold, afraid, burdened, poor, homeless, angry, feel sorrow, always be happy, nothing would ever break, burn, spoil or rot and my loved ones and pets would never die.....and evil couldn't touch me [not that it can now, because it can't, but just the same] Jesus would be the PERFECT neighbor. :0)

My dream neighbor would be one that would babysit my kids while I work. And, of course be friendly and watch out for my family.
They would not take what is mine. The perfect neighbor would accept me for who I am.
I have pretty good neighbors right now.
Except for they now need to babysit my kids and then they can be upgraded to perfect.

Note to Jan and anyone else

Jan suggested HOLIDAY INN as her favorite Christmas Movie some time back. I had never seen it so I put it on the Netflix list. My Niece manipulates the Netflix list and HOLIDAY INN kept moving down instead of up.

Finally got it and saw it. It was very good. It is really not about Christmas so I suggest for all to watch it anytime. The version I got from Netflix had a great commentary with it which I enjoyed and also suggest to all. Some commentaries are such baloney. Not the case with HI.

Thanks to Jan

Interesting question, and of course most people are going to answer practically and say friends, family, other loved ones. Impractically, however, I wouldn't mind living next to Stephen King, he could teach me quite a bit about getting a successful publishing run/contract going. I would also consider Stephen Spielberg, I'm not crazy about the guy, but he could sure give me a lot of insider information on who to hand off my scripts to (he might even take them himself:) What else? So many other possibilities out there, I could think of a million good ones and reasons for all of them.

Fantasy answers: Yo-Yo Ma or Matt Stone.

Really, I'd like to live next door to my 3 brothers, well I guess I'd have to live 2 doors down from one of them.

I think I would choose my mom. Right now I live over an hour away from her, and I just don't like it.

JUDGE JUDY! Every time I watch her I wish she were my neighbor. I would love to sit and listen to her talk. I love her insight.

Someone who has a lot of good tools, good music, good movies and a good sense of humor, all of which I could borrow at the drop of a hat.
