We had beautiful weather for our July 4th weekend. We were able to spend most of our time outdoors, enjoying the sun and gentle breeze.
Most of our neighbors had weekend guests. My next-door neighbor had three grandsons, aged eight to ten years old. Another neighbor also had three grandsons in the same age range. It was not a quiet weekend, but it was amusing.
Imagine six boys, rowdy and having a riot swimming, tubing and spinning on our tire swing, three at a time. They played a game that cracked me up. Each one would stand at the top of the hill with a big ball, run down, do a belly-flopper onto the ball and land on his head in the sand. They took turns, and all ran back up the hill to do it again. I didn't look like fun, but I'm not a little boy.

I couldn't help but wonder why the most responsible, powerful positions in society have traditionally been held by men, who used to be boys, who enjoyed landing on their heads in sand. No wonder Women's Lib was so successful!
