I'm a little bit behind the times, seeing as I just finally watched Spider-Man 3 last night. It came out right before we moved, and though my fiance went out to see it with his friends late one night (opening night, if I remember correctly), I stayed home and slept. When he got home, he said he was hugely disappointed with it, but he's not much of a Spider-Man fan to begin with.
So I waited for DVD, and I almost bought it sight unseen. Now that I've seen it, though, I think my collection can live with a little gap in it. As good as the first two Spider-Man movies were, this one was just plain bad.
Mostly, I think I'm bothered by the fact that there was just WAY too much going on in the movie, and they changed stuff that made no sense to change. For those unaware of the comic book plot, Venom was supposed to be brought back to Earth attached to J. Jonah Jamison's son, the astronaut. You know, Mary Jane's first fiance? Why they decided to diverge from that plotline, I have no idea.
Also, did they really need three villains? The first two movies worked fine with only a single villain. Of course, there's a plot twist with the villains (which I won't divulge, for those who might still want to see the movie), but even that doesn't change the fact that too many villains spoil the soup... err... movie. And I also just don't think that the villains were particularly compelling ones. They seemed too much like victims of their circumstances, not the cold, calculating baddies that I would prefer to be rooting against.
Finally, what is up with Spidey's bangs? Seriously. His emo-kid bangs kept getting longer as he got more and more emo. I just couldn't help but laugh, a lot, at his hair... hardly the part of the movie I think I was meant to be laughing at.
