I stopped at a few yard sales on my way home from the gym today, and found the usual "treasures"...a few books for the grandkids and a cute sweater for my granddaughter. But sometimes I find even better treasures. Last week we found an Exersaucer for our granddaughter for just $3.00 and some Leap Pad books for our grandsons for just $2.00 each, plus another Leap Pad book for $3.00, so now we have one book for each of the three grandsons.
But there have been other treasures found with an actual monetary value...like the antique furnace clock I bought for 25 cents, and sold on ebay for $150, or the vintage model car I purchased for 50 cents and sold for $30. Or the little milk glass cups I purchased for $1.00 and sold for $45. I don't find these kind of treasures every day, but it is sure fun when I do. I usually have no idea whether or not the items I buy will be worth anything on ebay, but if I see some quirky thing for a super low price, I will usually purchase it just for the fun of finding out.
Then there are the items I have found when I really needed or wanted them, and which I have considered a "God thing" when I do find them...like the time when I was a single parent, and our hanging kitchen light had caught on fire, so we had no light at all in the kitchen, and I couldn't afford to buy a new one. I saw a yard sale sign, but was too tired to stop, but a little "voice" in my head kept telling me to stop, because there would be a light there for me. I argued with the "voice", and finally gave in, and guess what! There WAS a light there for me, and it was only two dollars, and it worked perfectly. Then there was another time when I was single, and my youngest daughter needed a dress coat to wear to church, because all she had was her stained up play coat. I found the most darling little dress coat that fit her perfectly for just twenty five cents! God often provided for our needs through these kinds of yard sale finds. And sometimes He even provides for our wants. I have been trying to collect green canning jars with gray metal lids, but the cheapest I have been able to find were five dollars each, more than I wanted to pay. Then last weekend, we stopped at "just one last yard sale", and there was a box of eleven of the jars...for ten cents each...and it was my birthday, no less!
So, what are some of your best yard sale finds? Have you found something you really needed or wanted? Something you were able to sell at a good profit? Something that seemed meant just for you? Let me know about your "treasures"!

When I was in college, and pregnant with my oldest son, my roommate and her mother took me for a day of yard sale shopping. I found a beautiful wooden bassinet for five dollars. It had a crack in the wood, but my roommates father fixed it for me. My roommate and her family has always been so kind to me, and with their help, I was able to find everything my baby needed.

I have never resold anything though
A couple years ago we bought some dishes at a yard sale for like $5 for a whole box of them. The reason we bought them was because they reminded me of some that my grandma had, and when she died, I didn't get anything of hers (which is a whole nother story). Well, I was looking at some stuff online, and I found some like them that were worth a lot of money. So we had ours checked out. The whole box of them is worth around $200-250. I'll keep them, though.

I also bought a truck off of craigslist for $200 - just the shell - two months later I re-sold it for $400 to someone else off of craigslist.
I remember one year my husband needed to dress well for his job and desperately needed a winter storm coat. I found a beautiful, like new, one in his size at a local thrift store at a very low price we could afford. That has often happened when we have a real need and not a lot of money, so it does feel like God is watching over us.
Tomorrow, I'm gathering up clothes, linens and stuff to donate to Easter Seals (which receives money from Savers), hoping someone else will find just what they need.
Nice writing, by the way. ;-)
I LOVE going to garage sales!!
I have found some great stuff too!!!
at one sale awhile back I got about 120 records, yes Records, for $20 that is less than 20cents each!!! They were originally a bit more, but as my pile got quite large, the guy told me he would give me a better deal! That was one of my best finds!! I love listening to records, and have some REALLY great ones!!
we got a really nice tent once, hardly even used, that cost $20, but it was well worth it!!
We have also found some really neat old pictures, some really old sheet music, some great books, cheap baby clothes, all sorts of things that we got some great deals on!!
