A summer as hot as Louisiana gumbo
called her to the water for an evening swim.
The waves unfurl like dragon pearl tea leaves
beckoning her to enter their embrace
before ebbing to their natural end
against the steadfast shoreline.
The first touch of the water at her feet
feels as gentle as a baby's smile.
She walks into submersion then rolls in the water
pretending to be sea foam,
a profusion of bubbles,
bouncing upon the world
in an expression of joy.
