Perhaps because we have all been taught to identify with "thinking about being" instead of with "Being Itself" as Who or What We Are.
Or as one of the "pre-hay-ku" haiku from 10 years ago originally suggested:
A fatal case of
Mistaken identity
This being human.
Or even more directly:
"Me, myself and I"
As "I think I am" blinds me
To "Being Itself."
(Being itself = I as I Am)
being written on a screen
for other beings
