Help! Can you identify my baby's rash?

I put my son in the bathtub tonight to discover his entire back (not down onto his butt or up on his shoulders--literally just his back) covered with red bumps.  The BIG red blotch in the center of his back is excema.  It's the little red bumps I'm curious about.  They don't seem to bother him, but they look horrible.  We were outside all day today.  I have a sun burn as a result, so I thought it might be a heat rash of sorts (since his back may have gotten sweaty up against the back of the stroller).  Any ideas?

Oh, wow- I don't know, Tab. I've never seen anything with such a large red splotch like that. Is that a darker spot inside of the big splotch?

I'd say watch it tonight and tomorrow, but if it's not cleared up come Monday, maybe have Sam's ped look at it.

Could it be an allergic reaction. I figure he might have a tendency to allergies, since he already has eczema.

I am with Heather. If it gets worse or does not start to look better. I would take him to the doctor. Better safe than sorry when it comes to little ones.

I'm going to guess that it's an allergic reaction to something. Maddie had something similar last year and we discovered that she's allergic to peanuts.

Looks like allergic reaction, but could possibly caused by the heat too! If he starts getting really fussy I would definately take him to the doctor, otherwise it may clear up on it's own.
When my daughter was about 1 and 1/2 every time she ate strawberry yogurt she would break out in little red bumps. Now she is four and eats strawberries all the time and never has that problem anymore.

I'd take him to the Doctor as well. Also watch what detergents you use on his clothing and wash clothes. And also clean his little bathtub out with bleach and then rinse it out very well and let it air dry, then wipe it down with a dry cloth.

Probably heat rash....or it's part of the ezcema....ezcema can do that...my son and I both have it.

Have you changed your laundry supplies?
Heat rash is what it looks like, but I would hardly think that based on where you live, unless your house is hot.
Perhaps something he ate. Anything new?
How about new clothing? Certain materials can cause reactions. It seems to be more red where the tag might lay on his back.
Does he have similar rash on his stomach? if he does, it might be roseola rash. Check with the doctor.

If it got bigger with the warm water...probably the hives

I am thinking heat rash or allergic reaction..I break out from heat rash...his back looks my neck right now....If it doesn't see to bother him. Just rub him down with some cream and see if it gets any better. If not, get that baby to a doctor.

My son had a rash like this a few months ago, and came down with a cold and cough shortly after. The doctor said sometimes with a virus, a rash can be expected - on the back, or the hands and feet. Has he had a cold, cough, ear ache or sinus infection? There is a really bad big going around here. literally it takes about 2 months to get over it and the symptoms start with head ache, then runny nose, then terrible sinus congestion, then cough, ear ache, and a renewal of the sinus drainage- and stomach upset including burning in stomach and stomach cramps. Almost everyone I know that works in a school or has school aged children has had this. My son's version of it included the rash on his soles, palms= and a bright flush to palms and soles of his feet when it wasn't in the rash- he also has swelling in his thumbs and his feet.

i'm not sure what that is either.. i work at a daycare.. & we have fifths disease going around.. but it doesn't look like that ! but it does kinda look like hives.. if it doesn't seem to get any better.. take him to the doctor to get him checked out !

After reading your post, I'd say allergic reaction is most likely. Take him to doc if it does not get better. Might try hydro cortisone cream on it.
