NOT SURE ABOUT GATHER POINTS

I thought that all was well, and that I made my 3125 points to qualify for the cash option! Now I'm not sure!

I got an email from support today explaining how the points work. The following is an exerpt that concerns me:

"Points earned as a result of a Gather promotion (such as the recent "25-points-per-video-promotion") do not contribute toward the 3000 point level required to be invited into the cash program.  The cash program is set up as an option for members who regularly earn 3000 or more points per month with their normal activities on Gather."

 Ok, now here's the question. Is this video promotion going on now? How do I tell how many points that I have that are video?
How do I keep track?

Can anyone shed some light on this for me????

I had the same thing happen during an image promotion last year and they never would get back to me to tell me how many points I had subtracting the image promotion...I was very frustrated and sad about it....

I don't know how to tell if there is or is not a promo going on now! I have worked so darn hard this month to try to make the cash option, and now I'm not sure!! I AM SO FRUSTRATED!!!!!

I don't think there is now...I think they were just providing an example of one of the last promotions.... far as I know that one ended quite some time ago

Nina...I'm confused right along with you. Personally, here is my thought on the matter. If Gather is going to be mysterious about how many points we get for each activity here on Gather, how on earth can they possibly specify to us that certain points earned in a certain way cannot go toward the cash option. If they cannot tell a member how many points exactly that is...then that should not be a qualifier in reaching the cash option. Just my opinion. I don't blame you ONE bit for being frustrated.

Hi Cheryl, you are right! With the way things are currently run, there is no way a member can keep track of what they are doing!!! I know that I'm new here, but there are many things that gather could to do improve things around here, starting with the points! Why all the secrets???

This is a standard disclaimer that Gather gives about the cash option... just to make sure you know that any points you receive during a promotion do not count towards your eligibility for the cash option. I hope that makes sense! I haven't heard a thing about any upcoming points promotions, but why would I since I'm not a Guide anymore? ;o)

Yep it is a standard disclaimer that gather gives about the cash option and the promo they mentioned is the Promo when videos were first introduced back in the fall. I took full advantage of the promo while it lasted, but it is over now.

Hi Larry, I do photography, and I'm disabled. There are times when I feel good, and times when I can barely walk. I was happy to find gather for self expression, and to make friends. The cash/points was a bonus and a challenge! I accepted the challenge, to try to make the cash option!!! I was surprised that I made it, and for me it was a sense of accomplishment! That felt really good, because it has been a very long time since I felt that I could do anything!
I have had so many limitations on and off over the past several years. The sense of accomplishment is important to me. I know, it's just a little thing to most, but it is a big thing to me!

On Friday August 13 with the advent of Video On Gather, it was announced that through the end of the month there would be a 25 GatherPoints per video bonus. Another bonus was offered to the first 100 ... umm ... let's call them - regular members - who posted a video. This was for 100 bonus GatherPoints. SOrry you missed this promo but it is over

Nina - the cash is a big thing to me, since I stay at home because of various medical problems. I use Gather, Boomertowne, Netwinner, Mypoints, InboxDollars, SendEarnings, various survey programs... the list goes on and on, to supplement our income. It bothers me so much when people make comments like "If you are using Gather for the money they you could invest your time more wisely" because they really have NO idea what the situation is.

Faith....I agree. The money I make on Gather, Boomertowne, and Netwinner buys our groceries and helps pay bills. And you're right. Nobody else can know what a person's situation is....whether it be health, family issues, or anything else. Sometimes it is necessary to stay home, and nobody should be downed for that.

Nina, I too love contests & promos in fact it was a starbucks contest that brought me her. That said I think I have participated in every promo & contest on Gather and to do that everyday I check out all the groups listed on the right hand side of the page & then the featured groups. Contests & promos are alwasy announced in there featured articles. It has become my routine to read each of these first on a daily basis. Then, I subscribed to each of the feeds and I have never missed a contest.

Tiffany - again, they are just giving an example of something that does not qualify for the cash option eligibility and since the video promotion was the last promotion they had, that is the example they gave. I know it doesn't make much sense, and I agree that they should change the way they explain it. :o)

As Faith said it is a standardized email explaining about the cash option and these alwasy mention the last gather promo and gather has not held a promo since the video promo so the email will include this until there is a new gahter promo then the standarized email will be updated to include the new promo.

Nina - I agree, I don't like being jerked around either, but the reason Gather doesn't tell us how the points work is because there are way too many people here who would 'game the system' just to earn points. Gather won't succeed unless people are all over the site, and if people just focus on certain activities strictly to earn points... then that is not what they need to make money.

I'd love to talk to you too about Boomertowne and Netwinner, so send me a Gather mail and ask me all ya want!

Sorry I seemed upset Tiffany I just did not want anyone to think that they were missing out on a promo.

Tiffany I do not think that Nina has yet qualifies, I think that she got this response when she emailed them a question regarding the cash option.

What happens when you qualify for the cash option is that a couple of weeks past the end of the month is they send an email inviting you to the option.

It is the My Gather page the first one that opens when you open the site. The right hand side has these groups. I open each every day and any contests, book /movie ticket giveaways , chats some with giveaways, promos are all usually in the featured articles of these groups.

I'm not here for the money but I LOVE getting the gift cards. They are great to give as gifts or to use to buy gifts.

I understand that many people DO rely on whatever money they can make on these various sites. I think you should be hearing sometime in March that you DID qualify for the cash option, Nina. The only possible problem was once last year someone said that you had to show that you could earn the 3000+ points on a routine basis, not just for one month.

But obviously that is one of the closely guarded Gather secrets, so who knows?

Possible way around the system...you could see if any of the stores from the gift cards will give you the cash back after a purchase. Call ahead find out if they will before ordering the card. Then go to the store and use it for a very small purchase of like under $5 and ask for the cash back. Doesn't help change the way they do things here on Gather-but a possibility if they refuse to give you the cash option. BTW-I have no idea if any stores will do that, you'd have to call and ask.

Now that they have plastic cards I don't think it would work-but the old days of paper gift certificates you always got the cash back.

I was confused at first, but now I think I get it: That's a standard message they send out. I don't think they're saying you didn't make the cut, especially since there aren't any promos going on right now and there haven't been for a few months. :) Congrats on meeting your goal.
