On many occasions she told me and my sisters (paraphrasing): If you want your own troubles to seem less important and to even disappear, redirect your time/efforts to helping someone else. There is nothing better for improving your own life than to help someone else improve their life.
In that respect, it is easy to see how friendships can develop when you show interest in other people, rather than dwelling on yourself and desperately hoping that people will also mysteriously become interested in you.
Great quote!
Thank you all for your comments on this and adding more to it! This one is a very true quote! I like Glen's insight into especially and also the wise insight of Pamela's mother! The rest of you are no slouches either :-)
