Just saying the name Santa Claus

Has got me thinking because

it congers up in our mind that typical picture

of a fat. jolly old guy,with white hair and whiskers

I suppose that is how he should really look

but he's probably a baker,teacher,butcher, a cook

For Santa's come in all shapes and sizes

He uses so many different unique disguises

Each little kid that goes to bed Christmas Eve

dreaming of all the gifts they'll receive

drifts off to sleep thinking of that jolly old elf

Who is running around busy, enjoying himself

Keep your kids believing as long as you can

Nothing is wrong in thinking of that Jolly old man

Riding a sleigh across the cold winter's sky

Dropping off presents and away he will fly

For somewhere during childhood the truth will come out

And children will learn with disappointment no doubt

That the jolly old guy has had his identity concealed

How surprised they will be when Santa's Revealed

For quite unexpectedly they will come upon Mom and Dad

placing gifts under the tree, now peeking is bad

but it has to happen, the truth to be known

For someday they will be Santa to kids of their own

Beautiful, Elsie, and so so true, my granddaughter asked her when it was ok to stop believing in Santa Claus, and my daughter replied "any time you want, but when you stop believing in Santa, he will stop believing in you, and there won't be any more santa gifts under the tree on Christmas morning "(and we all know those are special gifts). She is 15 now, and still believes!!!!

Santa Claus comes in all shapes, sizes, colors and sex...just like angels and The Lord does! You'd better watch out because they ALL see you when you're sleeping and when you're awake.

I believe. I chatted with him on Gather the other night. He is as real as we want to believe. Hope never needs to die. I was told by a girl when I was 10; it was right before Christmas and I was heartbroken. My mom confirmed the truth. My kids, beginning at 6 doubted the reality of a lot of things, beginning with the Tooth Fairy and Santa. We kept trying to tell them that Santa is real and they said, "It's you and Daddy."

My son, at 2, actually saw my Father in Law go into a room and put on a Santa Suit. He told me about it but knew that Baba was just a helper.

I still believe! My daughter is twelve and still believes. She says that Santa has to be real, because you could never afford all of those gifts. Someone has always helped us on Christmas, so you see, Santa and his spirit are still alive...

I love it! Well-written, Elsie. The Santa tradition is a good part of Christmas fun for children. I especially like the final line. Those of us who loved Santa as kids also loved being Santa to our own.

Oh, Elsie, your poems always get to me. There is beauty and emotional health in believing in Santa Claus and then the spirit of Santa Claus and then being Santa Claus ourselves. Christmas can rejuvenate us if we let it. You have done your fair share of rejuventating so many of us this holiday season. I have to thank you for it and I promise, Elsie, I believe in Santa Claus.

My 4 year old, Liam, was concerned as a girl at the YMCA last week told him there was no Santa. He said, "There REALLY is one isn't there, Grandma?" and I told him there was. He and Caty still believe in Santa and the Tooth Fairy.

I have been just busting a gut to email to find out how you were doing today as far as your preparations, but wouldn't dare because you always email back, and I didn't want you to spend the time doing it when I knew you had chores to see to. Hi Miz Elsie - sorry I missed this one yesterday but to me Christmas doesn't just end on the 25th - the spirit goes on all year and each year, we're a little more wiser. Good Ole Santa is still that fat jolly man - I still believe in him - I believe in everything - my childlike enthusiasm is the greatest gift life has given me and even if ole Santa has gotten a bit thinner over the years - he's still the spirit of giving.
