I understand your anger. Last year, my daughter was involved in an accident where two morons in a pickup truck were pulling an old Buick down the interstate on a home-made wooden bed car hauler. The ROPE they used to tie the car down with broke and the car came loose from the hauler, (of which the brake lights weren't working (or not even hooked up)) at 11:00 at night and landed on TOP of the hood of daughter's mustang. Only by the grace of God did the car not go through the windshield and kill her and her boyfriend, who was in the passenger seat.

They were both fortunate that they only had minor injuries.

Oh did I mention the driver didn't have a DROP of insurance??????????????

I hate that he is trying to blame your daughter for his stupid mistake. I think driving after being up for three days is just as bad as talking on the cell phone. he needs smacked upside the head.

I hope your daughter is fine also. People just don't think about cause and effect and don't want to take responsibility for their actions anymore. It's so frustrating and a little bit scary in some ways.

I agree with you totally, in cases like this, I think a night or two in jail should be done and then the person may think twice before getting in the car in that condition. We tend to let people get by with a slap on the wrist. Not good enough. Glad your daughter is ok.

I am so glad she is ok. He should be ticketed for irresponsible driving...I've read that when you are awake longer than a certain amount of time your reactions are so slow, it's like being intoxicated. Wow...I am soooo glad she is alright.

That's terrible!!!! That guy needs to be put away for life to make sure he never gets in a vehicle again!!!

sorry to hear about the accident. I know how you feel, though. Right after I got my permit, I was driving with my mother and a lady in a huge 1 ton pickup turned left through an intersection, slamming into my driver-side door (I was going straight through the intersection and she was supposed to yield). While we were exchanging info she said "this is the 2nd time in six months". She was very old, by appearances as least 80 and it makes me wonder why some people get back behind the wheel or drive when they probably shouldn't. I was 16 and afraid to drive in heavy traffic for a long time after that. To this day, I'm still intimidated driving next to big dual-wheel pick-up trucks.

I'm glad she's okay. Seriously, that guy...I can't understand it. It is reckless, endangerment, all of that...

This is what I think about -- You hear so many people talking about the statistics of "drunk drivers"... and, yet, I fear that "DWAs" ("Driving While Asleep") play an awfully larger part in many fatal crashes (not to mention lesser accidents) than we presently have a handle on...

Sorry to hear about your daughter. I had a similar accident when I was 18. I pulled out of my parents driveway and a truck racing down the road tboned my parents car that I was driving. I went through a fence and into a neighbors field. The drivers response was, I saw you and thought you saw me and would stop. "huh?" He was speeding on a secondary 1 lane road.. his skid marks were over 55 miles per hour. But I was young and the guy kept talking to the State Police Officer, so the Police Officer just put it down as it was my fault (failure to yeild right of way). I was too young to realise the guy was manipulating the situation, and I was also in shock. Luckily, I wasn't seriously hurt, just bruises and lots of glass, but my parents car was totalled. My mother had checked the road and waved me on. She didn't see the truck, the truck had to be going very fast. I was more worried that my father was going to yell at me for ruining their car. Instead he saw the damage to the car and all he could say was "Thank god you are alright".

someone on here wrote thank god they both walked away from it. Well, to you I say just because you may physcially walk, (and there were injuries by the way) does not mean all was ok. You are 19 and a crash like that does play on your mental ability. So, it is not just the physical that your deal with.

This is being irrisponsible and taking others lives into risk. This rates right along drunk driving to me of which I have no tolerance for at all.

I don't think being 38 has anything to do with this driver's ignorance. At least I hope not, because I am the same age and would hope that I'd be smart enough not to drive if I haven't slept in 72 hours.

I hope your daughter is ok. I know what you mean about the mental aspect of an accident. I was hit by a woman who ran a red light a few years ago. It took a while before I really felt comfortable driving again.

Your daughter is okay at least physically. Once you know she is okay you get mad and you are right to do so. I would like to know what happens to the driver in the legal system.

My sister is a nanny. Her employer feels that her car is safer for her child so when she is there the lady takes my sister's brand new scion and leaves her car for the child and my sister....did ya understand that? Anyway, the woman got in an accident and totaled my sister's BRAND NEW CAR and doesn't want to call her insurance.....Yet another case of what are people thinking! Like the poor 23 YO insurance rates aren't sky high already!

Lora, I hope your daughter is all right too, and I am sure the man should have been ticketed, I think driving while sleep deprived is as bad or perhaps worse than driving while intoxicated. I am 81, and I am a good driver still, When I know I don't know what I am doing, I will give my license back. I often drive instead of someone else, as I feel safer that way. Some people who are older, and I am mentioning this because I read the comments above, should not be driving, I agree, but there are those of us who haven't shrunk in height, and who do have our wits about us. I think I am safer than the guy that passes on your right, and runs stop signs and also tail gates you, I hate that myself, I sympathize with your and your daughter Lora, I hope that guy had insurance, and that all is well with everyone,

When I don't feel good, I don't drive. When I am over tired I don't drive. People have poor judgement and I am sorry your daughter had an accident.

I just found this post. I'm so glad your daughter is okay. Things happen so quickly, and thank god she lived through it. My neice, Samantha, was not so lucky. I hope she recovers quickly and nothing like this EVER happens to her again. The cop should have checked for his insurance. They do here, usually. Where was this? It sounds familiar...
