I have been trying to read books I wouldn't normally have touched. Twenty Wishes is one of those books. I'm more an Anne Rice, Stephen King, John Grisham type of reader. You know horror, fiction, fantasy, legal thriller. Women's fiction designed on the very edge of romance usually doesn't even come close to what I would enjoy. Albeit, I asked to review Twenty Wishes when given the chance on Gather, and by some needle in a haystack I was chosen to do just that.
That being said, I was surprised. At first I found the plot boring, and unimportant. I mean come on! A group of four widows get together for Valentine's Day and each make a list of twenty wishes, so what, right? Well, this book is more than just a book, if you allow yourself to see past the written words on paper pages. It's a story of falling short, love, loss, and exceeding expectations.
Twenty Wishes is book 4 of her Blossom Street series which takes place in a friendly Seattle community. This is my first book I've read of Debbie Macomber's and I'm not sure that it will be my last. I think every woman can identify with someone in this book, regardless of her age.
