Yesterday I realized how close it was to Semana Santa (next week) and I started getting homesick. I was raised here in the States for about half of my childhood and about half with family in Spain. I spent about every holiday with faily in Spain as well so it has been weird getting used to not being over there as much in the past few years, mainly since I began college till now.
I was really hoping that the girls and I would be able to make it over for the holiday, but it just was not possible money and schedule wise. Even though Semana Santa is not celebrated here the way I am used to, I have decided to do what I can so that the girls and I can celebrate and practice our faith in the way we were raised.
While searching for some of my favorite flamenco music on Facebook, to get me in the mood, I came across a listing for a flamenco concert that is going to be happening this weekend. I had heard of them before and remember a friend catching one of their concerts in the city and telling me about them. The group is Guitarra Azul and their clips sound great . You can listen here.
I think I am going to take the girls, it has been a while since we have been to see anything live and I love the energy flamenco creates in a room.
For now though, I am listening to Jarabe de Palo, a favorite band of mine. I have shared my abso favorite song from them called Dejame Vivir, which was a collaboration between him and Chambao (another fave of mine). Here is a beautiful song from him called Me Gusta Como Eres. He does more Rock in Spanish but most of his songs have a flamenco element or fusion to them.
Enjoy!

I did check out Guitarra Azul and bought the album on iTunes. I have been in a music rut lately and needed the kick in the pants that you just gave me, thanks!
Thanks for sharing your story.
I have never had the chance to attend a concert of theirs but will if they ever come around. Another group I would love to hear is Pacifika, but so far they have not left Canada.
