Pacifika- A Group I Can't Stop Listening To

I love flamenco fusion, so whenever I find a new group I am super excited to see what they will produce.  For weeks I have been playing the album Asuncion from Pacifika, and I do hope this band continues to prosper because I am in love with their sound.

Pacifika released their first album in 2006 and consists of three band members whose backgrounds are just as diverse as their music.  Singer Silvana Kane is of Peruvian birth with a pop background.  Like me she enjoys Flamenco and electronica, two genres of music that are increasingly coming together.

Adam Popowitz is the Canadian guitarist with a background in classical music, new age and pop.  While I think the other two are equal players when it comes to the sound on the album, I have a different level of respect for Popowitz as a producer because I know he had to go into making this album breaking down how it sounded every single step of the way.

The third leg of the band is made up of Barbadoes raised Toby Peter who plays bass.  Peter has explored jazz, Metal and of course Carribean music in the past.

When you listen to the music it makes you feel so different about everything, especially when you listen from beginning to end.  Right now I am stuck on the opening track, Sol, which has a lot of different influences in it, but I can't help but want to take off running somewhere, anywhere when I hear it.

I wasn't able to find a Youtube clip to the song, because they have only the one music video done so far.  That video is the song Me Cai, which means "I fell" in Spanish (the album is bilingual).

“The song is an inner dialogue,” Kane says. “It’s about coming of age and falling in love for the first time, with words, with nature, with life.”

This is the video that the band has available so far, I love the Flamenco theme because, well, because I love flamenco.
