Courtney Love Connection On this day in 1994, Courtney Love was arrested on drugs and theft charges after a reported overdose. Love was unaware that her husband Kurt Cobain was dead at their home. On this day in 2001, Paul McCartney bought Courtney's four-bedroom Beverly Hills home for $3.995 million dollars. The gated 1930's house has its own swimming pool and 1.5 acres of land.

Birth of American conductor and composer Percy Faith. Grammy Award-winning orchestra leader, composer: The Theme from A Summer Place [1960]; My Heart Cries for You [Guy Mitchell hit], Delicado, Song from Moulin Rouge.

1920:
Birth of Indian sitar player and composer Pandit Ravi Shankar in Benares, India.

1937:
Born on this day: Charlie Thomas, vocalist for The Drifters. (1960 US No.1 & UK No.2 single 'Save The Last Dance For Me').

1949:
Born today - John Oates of Hall and Oates.


THE FIFTIES

1956:
The CBS Radio Network premiered the first regularly scheduled national broadcast rock & roll show, Alan Freed's 'Rock 'n' Roll Dance Party.'


THE SIXTIES

1962:
Shelley Fabares started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Johnny Angel'. It only reached No.41 on the UK chart.

1962:
While at Ealing Jazz Club, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards met Brian Jones for the first time. Jones was calling himself Elmo Lewis and was playing guitar with Paul Jones.

1966:
At Abbey Road studios in London The Beatles record overdubs on the new John Lennon song 'Tomorrow Never Knows' and the new Paul McCartney song 'Got to Get You Into My Life' for the forthcoming Revolver album.

1967:
DJ Tom Donahue begins a new radio format - Progressive (KMPX-FM)


THE SEVENTIES

1972:
Appearing at The Empire Pool in London: The Grateful Dead. Tickets were £1.

1973:
Vicki Lawrence started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia.'

1979:
Siouxsie And The Banshees played a charity gig for MENCAP, but after crowd trouble they were billed £2,000 for seat damage.

1979:
Appearing at the California Music Festival were Aerosmith, Van Halen, Cheap Trick, The Boomtown Rats and Ted Nugent.

Bonnie Raitt started a three-week run at No.1 on the US album chart with 'Nick Of Time.'

1990:
Taylor Dayne went to number one on the US singles chart with the Diane Warren song 'Love Will Lead You Back' . It only charted at 69 in the UK.

1990:
Motley Crue's Tommy Lee was injured when performing a stunt during a concert, falling 20 feet from a lighting rig.

1994:
Singer Percy Sledge pleads guilty to tax evasion


AND NOW...

2002:
UK Pop Idol runner-up Gareth Gates was at number one on the UK singles chart with his version of 'Unchained Melody.' Gates was the seventh act to have a number one hit with a version of this song.

2003:
Avril Lavigne dominated Canada's national music awards the Junos, winning four prizes including best single, album and new artist. Shania Twain who hosted the show won three awards. Best group went to Sum 41.
