We have a small shrub at the corner of our house that blooms in late spring with these very strange little flowers. They last about two weeks for the year and then are gone. Have you ever seen anything like it? Do you know what they are?

Can you see what they look like before they open? They have a very durable feeling texture almost leather-like. I think they are very pretty but have know idea what they are. I've never seen them anywhere else.

Is it some type of mtn laurel?
Thank YOU!!!!
I was going to guess a higbush cranberry which is not a cranberry at all but a mountain laurel
I have no idea.
The leave are similar to a rhododendron, but the flowers are different. I know that isn't very helpful. lol
I think Marianne's got it, it is probably some type of mountain laurel.
Dunno, but it sure is pretty.
They are very pretty!
Very pretty
Definitely our state flower, the Mountain Laurel. I lovely the heavenly cinnamon smell they give off in the Fall. Nice capture! They like a little epsom salt or evergreen plant food twice a year too; once in Spring and once again in Fall.
:) wishing you laughter
I don't know, but they are quite beautiful

I took some photos the other day of this same bush (haven't posted them yet) and I had no clue what it was either, but thought it was so neat looking. Glad to see others knew what it was.

I've never seen Mountain Laurel before so I couldn't tell you. I was going to say the leaves looked like rhodedendron. That i have in my front yard. What a beautiful flower. Lucky lady!
When I looked them up, the article said that they are related to the rhodedendron.
