I have read several posts about earning points and thoughts about how they add up. I carefully track how many things I comment on and what I publish. I have seen a pattern where it seems like I get a point for very two comments or sometimes for every one and a half.
I was reading one of Tom's chats a few days ago and he says you do not get points at all for commenting. If not, then what is all the fuss about leaving longer comments versus short comments. Sometimes after you have seen 10 pictures of the same dog or the same child all you can say is nice picture. At least that lets the person who posted know you stopped in and looked.
If ratings and comments don't count for anything, does that mean I can just click on a page like you do in My Points and it counts the same as whether I stay and comment?
I do enjoy looking at others images and short articles, as well as having a place to post my images. But I would also like to get enough points to get on the cash option. So if I need to spend less time commenting on things and just get out there and click on all kinds of other content, maybe that is what I should do if I ever want to reach over 3000 in a month. Any thoughts or suggestions?

It's the act of being on that person's page that gets you points (and that person also gets points). There was a theory that longer comments were better (and tons of other theories as well) but as you saw, Tom said it's not the comment that counts. So... obviously the theory was wrong.
You do just need to get out there and view all kinds of content and interact with lots of people. Leave comments, at least some of the time, because people then know you were there and comment back, and that indirectly gains you more points than if you hadn't commented.
That being said, by commenting, you 'are' letting people know that you're viewing and most people are more likely to go back to your page to view 'your' content, which is getting you even more page views.....so it all adds up.
If you do please share!
btw, what kind of camera do you have? I'm curious....
I haven't touched the videos yet, since I don't always have the time, but if that's where the points are I might have to...
I added a number of images in the last couple of days, and also some articles, and while some got quite a few comments, like others said mine dropped dead... Good photos too, not just the same old TRAIN! I tend not to comment on pictures of a train I must admit. I like to leave comments that mean something, until I get fed up with the 100th pink flower for example...
I also look to see who has commented on my work, and usually go look at theirs and comment back, expecially if they have less than 10 comments on any images for example. It's only fair to comment back of course.
But it's been slow today I know...
I put some nice pictures up of the Everglades, and some have only seen 3 or 4 comments. Sad really...
Good Luck to us all as far as the points...
I just read in your June 2009 post that points have changed. I'm trying to find out what has changed. Looks like this post was for what was available a year ago.
