I'm a few hundred richer! I wasn't expecting it. Ever "find" money? This is even better than when I found a hundred dollar bill in the pocket of some shorts I'd worn on vacation to Mexico.
I'm a member of ASCAP, the music performance rights people. There had been some discrepancy over compensation from music I supplied to a sports program on Fox Network sometime ago. I forgot all about it but I just went through the mail and found a check for a few hundred bucks related to those episodes.
You may have heard me play before and not known it. It was a nationally syndicated fishing program. I didn't watch the episodes my music aired on it but they were 10 to 30 second hard rock/metal instrumentals. I composed and played the guitars and bass. The producer of the show played drums on the tracks and mixed them into the product for the network.
The music served as background while someone landed a huge bass or whatever. So if you watched Bubba hook a big one and there was an angry sounding guitar buzzing away in the background it might have been me.
I got paid shortly after that but heard it should have been more. And now it is! Unexpected money is always fun. I'm going Halloween shopping. I'll get something that can double as stage wear. Its always Halloween for me. I've been saying "Everybody's already seen me in this" a lot lately and there's another photo session coming when we replace our bass player this spring. 3 birds one stone!
Don't you love money you aren't expecting?
