Tonight my husband and I took my Labrador retriever Amy to Rochester Hills, Michigan, to go to a bar named Chapman's Mill for Yappy Hour with about 30 of her doggie friends (and their owners). Yappy hour was held on a large, pretty, enclosed patio on the side of the bar/restaurant. The weather was nice all day but just after we got to the bar, rain poured down! Luckily, the tables on the patio had umbrellas on them, which helped some, and the bar employees brought us lots of towels to mop up water. My husband and I got our ponchos out of the car to wear. Fortunately, the rain stopped within 5 minutes and we had a great get-together with our dog owning friends and their dogs. Amy was quite thrilled to see her friends there. A lady put a big dish on each table and filled it with lots of homemade dog treats called "beer-bones." Amy was the only dog at our table, so she ate every one of the treats and loved them. I ate an angus burger with fries, a pickle, a hot fudge sundae, and had coffee to drink. Larry also had an angus burger and fries. We both shared some with Amy and water bowls had been put out for the dogs to get drinks. Our dog club has a Yappy Hour at a bar once a month, at a different bar each time. Another dog club we belong to has the same thing and its called "Drinking with the dogs." That one is September 22. In October, on Halloween weekend, we are going with our dog club to a lodge on Houghton Lake for the weekend. I reserved a first floor lake side room and we are taking my lab Amy with us. We could take my pit bull Spirit too but she is still young and a bit hyper, so we are trying the vacationing with dogs first with Amy, since she is a calm and obedient dog. I can hardly wait! Its going to be fun!
