Temporary Chinchilla!

Well, I walked into the shop at work today... to see a three-'story' cage with a Chinchilla inside. Slightly baffled, I asked my coworker what was up with that.

"Oh, it's [our boss] John's. It's free! You should take it!" I laughed and declined, but texted a bunch of friends in the hope that maybe one would be interested, or know someone who was. Low and behold, Kate, who owns the horses Sarge lives with, has been wanting one, but they were too expensive. So she pounced on the opportunity to nab this cute furball for free.

The poor thing hasn't seen much love lately, and the cage was both filthy and not the right kind for a Chinchilla. But until Kate can come claim her, it'll suffice, and at least she's got fresh newspaper now!

Portia is both wary and curious about this invader.

"Ooh, what's out here?"

I'm glad that she'll be going to a great new home. Kate has really read up and done her homework on the species, which is good since I had to ask her what kind of food to go buy and all of that, haha. I know this creature will be much loved from here on!

It's sad... I think the intentions were good, but the Chinchilla was bought by my boss, probably with no research done, for his daughter... who eventually lost interest. That's the story with a lot of the unwanted pets out there, it seems.

I'll try to get some better photos of my temporary roommate at some point soon :)
